Style On Trial: Rubber ankle boots by Melissa

Melissa's recent collaboration with Vivienne Westwood (and particularly the Lady Dragon shoes that were one of the results of it) may have won us over to the ways of plastic shoes, but we're not sure we're ready to fully embrace the concept, and we're even less sure about rubber ankle boots. So we're putting these ones up On Trial, and letting you decide for us. We're generous like that.

These are essentially stiletto Wellington boots, and while we can see the practicality of them, particularly during the UK's rainy season (January – December if you're thinking of visiting), we're just not sure we're ready to slip into these, although we'd have had no such qualms if they were made of leather.

At the same time, though, we guess they'd come in handy on a rainy day, and the height of the heel would at least mean our "cut-for-stiletto" trousers wouldn't have to drag along the ground, like they do in flatter rain shoes. Not that these are specifically designed as rain shoes, mind you: they're fashion items through and through, but tell us, what do you think of them? Are you tempted? If so, they're £75 from Browns.
