Red Carpet Legends: The Top 10 Best Oscars Outfits Of All Time

The 2018 Academy Awards are quickly approaching. This Sunday’s ceremony will be the 90th Academy Awards broadcast! Otherwise known as the Oscars, these are undoubtedly the most important awards in the entertainment industry. Hollywood’s finest vie for the coveted statue their entire careers and only the best of the best end up receiving one. While the awards themselves are immensely important, another thing we’re all looking forward to is the fashion! The Oscars have seen some incredible fashion choices over the years (and some awful ones). We dug through the archives and managed to choose our Top 10 favorite Oscar looks of all time. Read on to see the best Oscars outfits from the past 90 years:

1. Gwyneth Paltrow

Oscars Best Dressed

Gwyneth Paltrow became everyone’s sweetheart when she wore this baby pink gown to the 1999 Oscars. She ended up winning the Best Actress award for her role in Shakespeare In Love, and it’s safe to say we were all in love with her! (Bad joke, we know…)

2. Michelle Williams

Oscars Best Dressed

This yellow gown wore by Michelle Williams at the 2006 Oscars is one of the greatest of all time. The bright yellow of the dress paired with her red lipstick brought the perfect pop of color to the red carpet. The silhouette of the dress was gorgeous and fit her to perfection.

3. Halle Berry

Oscars Best Dressed

Hands down, one of the best Oscars outfits ever was this gown that Halle Berry wore to the 2002 Oscars. Between the beautifully constructed top portion of the gown and the elegant satin skirt, we were obsessed with this dress. On top of looking like a real-life goddess, Halle won the Best Actress Oscar that year for her role in Monster’s Ball!

4. Nicole Kidman

Oscars Best Dressed

This list would not be complete without an appearance by Nicole Kidman. We actually had a hard time choosing the fashion icon’s best Oscar look – there’s been so many great ones! The clear standout was this elegant red gown she wore to the 2007 ceremony. The fit, the color, everything about this dress was amazing.

5. Hilary Swank

Oscars Best Dressed

We all cheered when Hilary Swank won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Million Dollar Baby in 2005. She wore this navy blue dress to the ceremony and all our jaws dropped. Between the long sleeves and low-cut back, it was one of the most unique gowns that year.

6. Lupita Nyong’o

Oscars Best Dressed

When Lupita Nyong’o walked the red carpet in this baby blue gown in 2014, she took our breath away. She won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in 12 Years A Slave, and she looked like a straight-up princess while doing so!

7. Angelina Jolie

Oscars Best Dressed

After the 2012 Oscars, all that anyone could talk about was Angelina Jolie’s leg! Angie wore this simple, chic black velvet gown on the red carpet and we thought it was absolutely stunning. That leg, though! It was the best accessory of the year.

8. Cate Blanchett

Oscars Best Dressed

Cate Blanchett’s sea foam-colored gown from the 2016 ceremony is certainly one of the best Oscars outfits of all time. The dress is an interesting choice, and it may not have looked as good on any other actress. One Cate’s statuesque figure, it looks like absolute royalty. It was our favorite look that year!

9. Jennifer Lawrence

Oscars Best Dressed

Jennifer Lawrence made her Oscars red carpet debut at the 2011 ceremony. She wore this chic Calvin Klein gown and had everyone asking, “Who’s that girl?” The fit of this gown is beautiful, a well as the simple hair and makeup. Since then, Jennifer has made numerous Oscars appearances, but we’ll never forget the beginning of it all!

10. Emma Stone

Oscars Best Dressed

When Emma Stone wore this vintage-inspired gown to the 2017 Oscars, we knew she was a winner. She received the award for Best Actress that night, for her starring role in the musical La La Land. The dress was a perfect choice, as the film is reminiscent of old Hollywood, much like this gown is!
