The 2018 Academy Awards are only a week away! While the Academy Awards – otherwise known as the Oscars – are important because of the actual awards, what we’re really concerned with is the red carpet. Every year fashion critics round up the best and worst dressed at the Oscars, and in honor of the upcoming ceremony, we’d like to take a trip down memory lane. The Oscars have seen some incredible fashion, but they’ve also seen a lot of horrible fashion. For this article, we’ve compiled the ten worst Oscars outfits of all time. Check them out here:
1. Demi Moore
There was definitely a lot going on with this ensemble that Demi Moore wore to the 1989 Oscars. Is she wearing a corset? A leotard? What is happening here?
2. Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman is stunning, but this gown that she wore to the 2004 Oscars? Not so stunning. In fact, it’s downright ugly. First of all, it reminds us of the Seinfeld puffy shirt. Second of all, it has that weird turquoise belt. Enough said.
3. Tilda Swinton
Here we have Tilda Swinton wearing a black garbage bag to the 2008 Oscars. This look is…well, garbage.
4. Celine Dion
We understand that Celine Dion was trying to be chic when she wore this backwards pantsuit to the 1999 Oscars. However, this missed the mark. Maybe it was the hat. Yeah, it must have been the hat…
5. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is one of our favorites – she really is. This dress that she wore to the 2016 Oscars actually would have looked very nice if it weren’t for the red dishwashing gloves.
6. Jennifer Connelly
Jennifer Connelly is, without question, one of the most beautiful women in the world. Our hearts were broken when she wore this dab gown with a mismatched scarf to the 2002 Oscars. It’s worth noting that she did win the award for Best Supporting Actress that night for her role in A Beautiful Mind.
7. Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg wore this colorful ensemble to the 1993 Oscars. We’d like to say that the lime green and purple combo is what makes this outfit a mess, but we imagine it’d be a mess in any color scheme.
8. Faith Hill
Is this an Oscar gown or a costume from The Wizard Of Oz? We’re always a fan of color, but when Faith Hill wore this candy-esque gown to the 2002 Oscars, all we could think of was one of those striped, swirly lollipops.
Ah, Bjork. This was the Oscar dress seen round the world. Bjork’s swan dress immediately went down as one of the worst Oscars outfits of all time, but we’re just wondering: what was Bjork even doing at the Oscars?
10. Gwenyth Paltrow
We’ve saved the worst for last: Gwenyth Paltrow wore this gothic-inspired gown to the 2002 Oscars and we were scratching our heads with confusion. How could someone so beautiful wear something so hideous? This is perhaps the most unflattering gown of all time, not to mention the ugliest. This is, hands down, the worst of the worst Oscars outfits ever.
