Fashion Trends: Tuxedo jackets, Kate Moss style

Tuxedo jackets have always been a bit of a party-season perennial, but thanks to some heavy-duty wear by Kate Moss, they’re even more "of the moment" this winter, looking great with jeans and vest a la Ms. Moss, or over a dress for a more dressed-up look. In this picture, Kate wears her own design, the Kate Moss for Topshop tuxedo jacket, £80 (top right); I like Warehouse’s satin version, which is a slightly-cheaper £65; and Urban Outfitters go for the budget option, with their $68 Lux Lili tuxedo bomber.

Wanted! Chloe’s orange sixties-style leather coat

None of you dedicated fashionistas will need me to tell you that leather outerwear is, like, SO this season, but I reckon if you’re going to do it, you may as well do it right. So you may as well ditch the black leather jacket for a bright orange leather coat. You may as well make it swingin’ sixties style, with a wide collar, a low slung belt and an oversized pocket. In fact, you may as well make it Chloe, and you may as well pay £3360 for it, while you’re at it, dontchya think? Actually, I’m just joking. While I love the look of this retro-style Chloe leather coat, even I would hesitate to blow a few months…

Winter Coats from Primark – Autumn/Winter 07

Didn’t I tell you capes were going to big this Autumn/Winter? If there’s a fashion trend a-comin’, you can guarantee Primark will be all over it, and they definitely haven’t let us down with their latest outerwear collection, which will be available in store from the end of October. (Why so late, Primark? I need me some coat action now!) It will probably come as no surprise to you to hear that I love the cape-coat on the left of this picture. It’s just £20, although I predict they’ll be selling on eBay for more than that. I’m also loving the 40s style black coat with its lovely belt (£30) – the cloche hat ain’t bad either, and the two…

Most Wanted Winter Coats: Black, wide collar jacket from Monsoon

I’m currently on the hunt for a new winter coat. Seeing as I’m on a bit of a budget (for which read: "I have no money") it’s got to black, so that it’ll go with (almost) everything, and I’d quite like it to have some kind of stand-out detailing, like an oversized collar, say, because I love me some oversized collar. Actually, I’d quite like it to be this ‘Ruby’ jacket from Monsoon, come to think of it. I love the drama of the collar, but the simplicity of the rest of the piece means that it would work really hard for me all winter – and probably next winter, too. The snag? It’s £95, which is a little more…

Wanted! Funnel neck cape coat from Oasis

As much as I hate winter, I love outerwear: in fact, I’ve just had to store a whole bunch of coats and jackets away in the attic because I had so many of them, and not enough room to store them. Of course, now that some space has been cleared, I’m getting ready to fill it up again with… more winter coats, obviously. At  the moment, this funnel neck cape from Oasis is high on my "must see in person" list. We’re going to be seeing a lot of capes this season, but while this one looks fabulous on the model (don’t most things?) it doesn’t look quite as good in the product picture. Looks like a visit to Oasis…

If you go down to the woods today… beware of Prada’s teddy bear style coats

Fashion Police officer Annie posted this picture up on our Facebook Group recently, and when I saw it I had to a double take, because you know what? I have a teddy bear who looks exactly like this coat. Prada done skinned my teddy bear! They’ve killed Ted and turned him into high fashion! The hell? What’s even more worrying than the coat, though (once I’d checked that it wasn’t actually my bear, obviously) is the socks this model is wearing with it. Are those pop socks? Nude, knee-high pop socks? Has the whole world gone mad?!

Fashion Trends: Bateau necks and big bows = Fashion Police love

Y’all know by now that I love me some big bows. What you might not know, is that I also love bateau necks – big time. Net-a-Porter have two great  examples of both of these in at the moment – Diane Von Furstenberg’s bateau neck wrap dress (which has a gorgeous, deep V at the back) and this utterly fabulous oversized bow coat  by Erotokritos. I’d sell my soul for either one, but if I had to choose, I’d probably go for the coat, which would be the item that would get the most wear. Good to see bateau necks in fashion for Fall, though – The Fashion Police definitely approve!

Wanted! Burberry Prorsum’s wide collared trenchcoat

I think I’ve probably said this before, but I tend to judge fashion labels on two main things – their dresses and their outerwear. If a label makes good dresses and jackets, I’ll probably like them, which is why I love Burberry Prorsum. It’s a world away from the ubiquitous checks that are now seen on every market stall and every tackily-dressed teenager’s back round here, and this coat is the perfect example of Prorsum’s loveliness. Of course, some of you will think the over sized collar is just way too much,  but I love me  some oversized  stuff every now and then, and I reckon these wide lapels plus the belted waist will equal a tiny looking waist for…

Wanted! Mike and Chris hoodies. Yes, all of them.

So, Ill tell you what I want, what I really, really want…. God, for a minute there I thought it was 1994 again. Sorry. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes: what I really, really want at the moment is a Mike & Chris Hoodie. I don’t really care which one I get, because I like them all, but the one in the picture above would be sweet. Thanks, people who know me and who are reading this trying to find out what kind of suff to buy me as a gift. Seriously, though, how cute are these? SO cute, that’s how cute. And given that I spent most of last winter wearing the same hoodie, and even although it…

Crime of Fashion: When print attacks…

I freely admit to not exactly seeing eye to eye with most bold prints, so maybe I’m not the best person to judge on this, but tell me, would you wear this coat? Or does it make you throw up a little bit in your mouth? Sorry, River Island, I’ve been loving your work lately, but I think I’ll be saving my £59.99 for something that won’t get me laughed at in the street, if it’s all the same to you…

Wanted! Linen bow jackets from River Island

I just found my must-have summer jacket in River Island, so of course I raced home to write about it (well, I couldn’t afford to actually buy it this close to pay-day, so writing about it here was the next best thing) … and found that they didn’t have it on the website. These? They’re not it. Sorry. They are pretty cute, though, no? I’m imagining them with this seasons flood-length jeans (in black), a great big pair of dark sunnies, et voila – a cute, sophisticated summer look a la Audrey Hepburn. I’d probably buy both colours, but then I? Am crazy.

Wanted! Yellow Button Collar Jacket from Miss Selfridge

Just speaking of the Miss Selfridge sale, isn’t this pretty? Say it is pretty. If I wasn’t currently being compelled to spend all my money on lingerie for my honeymoon, this baby would SO be coming home with Amber. I mean, it’s £25 – TWENTY. FIVE. POUNDS, people. And also: pretty. It’s the kind of jacket you could still wear into Spring, too, and come to think of it, would have made a nice "going away" jacket, if, of course, I didn’t already have me a nice "going away" jacket. Damn…

Wanted! Dolce & Gabanna Satin Evening Coat

The phrase "I want this – give me it" doesn’t really cover how I feel about this coat. I mean, y’all know I love me some evening coats, right? Well, now I feel kinda silly for drooling over those Warehouse numbers when this was out there all along. Lookit! The gorgeous, jewel-green satin, the fabulous, low cut collar, the shape of the thing! It makes those two Warehouse coats look like a coupla sacks, doesn’t it? This is £495 at Net-a-Porter, but seriously, if the Devil himself were to pop up right about now and offer to buy my soul in exchange for it, I’d be all, "Pull up a seat, Beelzebub – let’s talk." Santa? I hope you’re reading…

Wanted! Warehouse’s Occassion Coats

How many times have you gotten all dressed up for a party, only to go and spoil it all by throwing on some bulky great overcoat over the top? Never? Well then, you’re a better person – or at least, a better dressed person – than me. I’m guilty of committing this particular crime of fashion all the time, which is why I’m drawn to these lovely posh occasion coats at Warehouse. The only problem is which one to choose? The white is sparkier and more versatile, but green is my very favourite colour… They’re £70 each.

Wanted! Moschino Jeans Shearling Coat

GOD. I really wish I hadn’t seen this Moschino Jeans coat, and you know why? Well, it’s one of those “price on request” jobs, which roughly translates as “If you have to ask, you can’t afford”. Damn. It was love at first sight, though, especially given that I’m currently sitting here wearing all my clothes at the same time, in a pathetic attempt to ward off the cold. The saving grace with this one? Well, it’s shearling, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about that. I’m one of those people who wears leather but not fur, and who’d really like to be vegetarian, but would probably starve to death if she even tried. So could I wear shearling?…

Four of the Best: Winter Coats

I freely admit to being a coat and jacket junkie. Anytime I go into a new store, or look at a new fashion website, I’ll go straight to the outerwear section. You can tell a lot about a designer from their outerwear section. If it isn’t up to scratch, well, then the rest of their collection probably won’t be worth looking at either. Beautiful coats are just about the only things that make winter bearable for me. Here are my four of the best, starting with this lovely red wide-collar number, which is £79 from La Redoute. You’ll have to buy the belt sepperately, but it’s well worth doing because this is such a sexy, dramatic look…   Next up…

Most Wanted: JC Penney Novelty Jacket

I’ve been coveting this jacket for a while now, and as it would look just perfect with those gap pants we were talking about earlier, I figured now was the time to post it. Now, the last thing I need is another jacket, seriously, and it doesn’t look warm enough to withstand a Scottish winter, so I really, really don’t another jacket… All the same, this one is only $50 from JC Penney. Please, God, lead me not into temptation – I really can’t afford it…
