Moschino’s Upside-down ruffle dress : the last straw for ruffles

The Fashion Police would like to respectfully ask the ruffle trend to just die now. Please.

Oh sure, it’s had its moments. We’re not saying everything with a ruffle is wrong, and we can be quite partial to the odd ruffle or two here and there. The key to this trend, as with most things, however, is moderation. One or two ruffles can add a certain something to a piece, there’s no denying that. But this week’s double whammy of the Poltock & Walsh skirt we featured yesterday, and now this all-over-ruffle dress from Moschino, has convinced us that it’s time for this trend to give in gracefully and trouble us no more.

Granted, the dress is far less worrying than the fungi-skirt, but we still think anyone wearing this would look like a slightly blurred photograph, all rough around the edges thanks to all those darn ruffles. If you disagree, you can buy this from Net-a-Porter for £1,325.

There’s a reason these overly ruffled contraptions aren’t shown on a model: they’re lumpy, bumpy and generally unflattering to every body type out there.

Yes, I think so too – even the skinniest person is going to look thicker and lumpier around the waist in something like that!
