Guest Post: Fashionable Dating

"As the great Coco Chanel once said ‘I don’t do fashion. I am fashion’

This little quote got me thinking about the world of fashion, and how it relates to me personally. I think that a person’s sense of style, the clothes they wear, and the way they shop can tell you a lot about them. It’s true that our sense of style is a major reflection of who we are. I always seem to notice that bright and happy people are always dressed super cute, and fun. And people who are really confident and outgoing, often make very bold fashion choices too.

Which made me wonder, just how much is fashion connected to other areas of our lives?

Other areas, like our choice in men (or women)

I’m a completely impulsive shopper. If I see something that I love, I can’t bring myself to leave the store without buying it. It doesn’t matter if I can’t really afford it, if I may not wear it much, or whether it’s a dress, skirt, shoes, or a bag. If I lust after it, then I just can’t leave it there. I can’t even begin to count the times that I have looked through my wardrobe and thought.. ‘what the hell was I thinking?’

Now when I think about my colourful dating history.. there seems to be a lot of parallels. There have definitely been a lot of times, where I have chased someone for weeks, even months, thinking I MUST have them. Or at least have a date with them. It doesn’t really matter whether they are completely wrong for me, or whether they’re out of my league. I’ll just keep going. And then at the end of it all, I either get bored. Or again.. say to myself ‘what the hell was I thinking?’

I don’t think I’m the only one who experiences this kind of thing, I mean just look at Britney. During her head-shaving-umbrella-wielding-British-accent-talking phase, her outfits were, well interesting to say the least. Fashion crimes worthy of a life sentence.  All the while she was reported to have had an encounter with a random young man in the pool of a hotel, and she also shacked up with a dodgy paparazzo.

And have you ever noticed that your sensible friend, the one who dresses in what could be described as ‘classic’ style: flats, tailored shirts, simple and sophisticated clothes; well she never seems to get herself into ridiculous relationship dramas does she?

I think I might be onto something here. So I’ll leave you with this thought.

The perfect man for you could be just a shopping trip away.
