Celebrity Fashion: The 8 Best Looks From the 2019 Met Gala

Every year, on the first Monday in May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City holds the annual Met Gala. The event is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute and the biggest stars in the world attend to show their support as well as participate in the insane fashion. The Met Gala differs from other celeb occasions because it’s not your typical “black tie event.” The attendees get to turn their outfit into artwork by picking something absolutely remarkable and unique. Every year there is a different theme for the fashion and the goal is to wear the most incredible, stand-out piece. This year’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” which basically means “campy” or anything that is totally wild and over-the-top. Needless to say, the stars showed up in some absolutely crazy outfits and there were a lot of looks that we’ll never forget. Check out the eight best looks from the 2019 MET Gala below:

1. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga didn’t just wear an outfit to the Met Gala. Lady Gaga performed an outfit. The superstar actually transitioned between four different outfits live on the carpet, turning her ensemble into performative art. Starting out with an oversized pink parachute gown, she moved on to a black gown with an exaggerated hip. She then unzipped that to reveal a form-fitted hot pink gown, reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. Underneath that was a glittery bra and panty set that let Gaga show off her incredible physique! All four of these outfits and the unveiling of them made for the best look of the night and the most iconic moment in Met Gala history!

Billy Porter has mastered the art of head-turning fashion. Remember his tuxedo gown at this year’s Oscars? He certainly didn’t disappoint with his Met Gala look, showing up in an Egyptian-themed ensemble and being carried in by Broadway performers! (Billy himself is a Broadway icon, having originated the role of “Lola” in Kinky Boots.) After being carried in, Billy walked the carpet in a gold beaded jumpsuit with larger-than-life wings!

3. Serena Williams

It turns out Serena Williams kills it on the tennis court and the red carpet! This neon-colored look was totally stunning and we love that she stayed true to herself, wearing sneakers with her gown. Highlighter-yellow has never looked so good!

4. Emily Ratajkowski

First off, Emily Ratajkowski has the greatest body in Hollywood. Actually, the greatest body in…well, anywhere. So this barely-there outfit was a perfect choice for her to show it all off! We’re obsessed with the wild hair and the wing headpiece! We’re obsessed with all of it, actually.

5. Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber stepped straight out of the 60’s and onto the carpet with this baby pink form-fitted gown! We love the combination of the high ponytail and the low back. This was one of the sexiest looks of the night, hands down!

6. Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae wears Met-worthy fashion to pretty much every event, so we knew that she was going to really bring it tonight. Her outfit looked like it was pulled straight off the walls of MOMA, and we couldn’t stop staring at it! But that’s the effect a Met Ball outfit is supposed to have, right? Plus, the eye on her outfit was animatronic and batted its lashes!

7. Katy Perry

While Katy Perry is no stranger to dressing outrageous, she topped herself at this year’s Met Gala. The pop superstar came as an actual chandelier! We’ve never seen anything like this and we’re pretty sure no one else has either. This outfit personifies everything that the Met Gala is about and it will certainly go down in fashion history!

8. Gigi Hadid

There’s not one single aspect of Gigi Hadid’s outfit that isn’t perfection. The headpiece, the eyelashes, the cape, the shoes…everything. Not everyone could pull off head-to-toe metallic, but not everyone is Gigi Hadid.
