Anyone who is interested in fashion knows that at the end of the day, there is only one opinion that really matters: Anna Wintour’s. The Vogue editor-in-chief is one of the biggest fashion icons in the world – if not the biggest. When it comes to fashion trends or style influencers, Anna is the one person that everyone goes to for some insight. “Does Anna approve? What does Anna think? Does Anna hate this?” You get the idea…
The latest opinion Anna has blessed us with is on the fashion of First Lady Melania Trump. What she said (or rather, didn’t say) is now making headlines. Check it out below!
Anna Wintour’s Thoughts On Melania Trump’s Fashion
Anna has been Vogue’s editor-in-chief for over 30 years, so it’s not uncommon for her to be sought out for fashion opinions. In fact, nearly everyone in the industry considers her opinion one of the most valuable. So it’s no surprise that eventually Anna was going to be asked about the huge fashion topic that is the First Lady’s fashion.
Now, it’s not a secret that the majority of the fashion industry is not big fan of the Trump family. We’re not here to get into politics. (That’s a different topic for a different site…) With that said, while many people can’t stand the Trumps, they also can’t ignore the fact that Melania Trump does dress well. Like her or not, the First Lady makes a lot of chic and stylish fashion choices!
During a recent interview with Anne McElvoy on the hit podcast The Economist Asks, Anna was asked for her thoughts on Melania Trump’s fashion. Rather than slam the controversial First Lady, Anna let her silence do all the talking. Instead of commenting on Melania, she used the moment to voice her praise for former First Lady Michelle Obama. Here’s what she said:
““I think First Lady Michelle Obama really was so incredible. In every decision she made about fashion. She supported young American designers, she supported designers indeed from all over the world. She was the best ambassador that this country could possibly have in many ways way beyond fashion.”
Well! Almost everyone has taken Anna’s deliberate pivot into praising Michelle Obama as an indirect dig at Melania Trump. You know the old adage, “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all?” This certainly looks like an example of that exact phrase at play.
Anne McElvoy pressed Anna on the issue before the interview was over. She re-stated the question to the Vogue editor, “But she [Michelle Obama] is not the first lady now, so what about the one you’ve got now?”
To which Anna doubled-down: “To me, she [Michelle Obama] is the example that I admire.”
Yikes! Fashion royalty, Anna Wintour is obviously not afraid to throw some major shade and we have to admit, we are totally here for it! Now, can we get some of Anna’s thoughts on cargo shorts?
