A few weeks ago, I threw a jacket on to pop round to visit family. It was only when I arrived that I realised the horrible truth: the jacket was a denim one… and I was wearing black skinny jeans with it. Yes, I had committed the ultimate fashion crime – double denim. And even although the jeans were black, and could easily have passed for trousers, I couldn’t get that jacket off quick enough. I felt like I was auditioning for Status Quo and, needless to say, I kept the jacket in my bag for the car ride home.
I had never worn double denim since I was a child in the eighties (and in those days it was acid-wash denim, just to make matters worse), and I swear to you all now that, as God is my witness, I will never do it again.
What about you, though? Would you ever wear double denim? Do you think it’s really all that bad?
