Submission Guidelines for guest bloggers
Your Fashion Police needs you
Because we like to try and have a mix opinions and points of view on the site (and also because we sometimes like to take holidays, let’s be honest), The Fashion Police welcomes guest posts from our readers. Here’s some information about what we need from you, and how to submit…
What does guest posting involve?
Quite simply, you write a fashion-related post for our site, and we publish it. It’s as easy as that.
What do you get out of it?
Well, our site currently receives over 600,000 page impressions per month. If you have a blog or site of your own to promote, guest posting for us is an opportunity to put your work in front of all of those readers. You’ll be able to link back to your own site from your guest post, allowing you to steal some of our high traffic.
As an example of the type of traffic you may receive as a result of guest posting at The Fashion Police, here’s a screen shot showing outgoing clicks from a post on the site, with data collected using Triggit. (Note: this image is now out of date by about a year, so outgoing clicks should be higher now.)
This screenshot was taken after the post had been live for four days, and in case you can’t read the text, the top link received 355 outgoing clicks, the second received 237 clicks and the third 33 clicks. Your post will appear on our homepage, and then be archived, remaining on the site permanently, so your links will remain active forever.
What should you write about?
You can use your guest post to write about anything you like as long as it is related to fashion in some way. For instance you could write:
> A column talking about your own fashion likes and dislikes
> A post on your most hated Crime of Fashion
> A Dress of the Day post
> A response to something you’ve read at The Fashion Police before
> An opinion piece on any aspect of fashion and style
It’s totally up to you!
Post Guidelines
Although our requirements on subject matter are pretty flexible, we do ask that you abide by the following guidelines:
> Posts should be no longer than 500 words long
> If you’re writing about a specific item, you must attach an image of that item
> Posts must be spell-checked, and of a good standard of English – i.e. no txt speak! We reserve the right to edit your post to correct spelling and grammar.
> Your post must be your own, original work, and must not have been published elsewhere – sorry, you may not submit posts that you’ve already published on your own blog
> Must not contain racist, sectarian or otherwise hate-filled ramblings. This includes spiteful comments about people’s weight, etc, i.e. while it’s OK to offer opinions on clothing choices, it’s not OK to call people “fat” or “ugly”.
> Must not contain blatant advertising. While we’re happy for you to mention and link back to your site (that’s one of the benefits of doing this), any posts which contain blatant advertising will not be used.
> Must not be about someone you know or that girl in your class who wore a really ugly dress to prom that time, and look, you took photos of her on your cellphone! We don’t publish that kind of thing.
IMPORTANT! Before writing your post, please use the search box at the top of every page to search our archive and make sure that we’ve not already written about the item you’re submitting. We will not publish duplicates of items already on the site, and we don’t want you to waste your time writing about them! If you’re writing about an Ugly Prom Dress, it’s best to check the archive for that category rather than depending on the search box, because those posts don’t have specific product names and so don’t always come up on a search.
Images
Most posts at The Fashion Police are accompanied by an image, the exception being columns or opinion pieces. You’re also welcome to send a headshot to go with your author bio if you’d like to. If you’re writing about a product, please make sure you either attach an image or provide a link to the retailer’s website, where the image can be found. If you’re writing about a celebrity, please be aware that we can only publish images we have purchased the rights to use, so please email us first so that we can make sure we can obtain the image you require from our image agency.
Linking to your own blog or website
As mentioned, one of the benefits of writing a guest post for The Fashion Police is the fact that you can link to your own blog from your guest post. This can be done in the form of a short author bio at the end of your post, which you should submit with the post itself. We will also link to your site at the start of your post, but ask that you try to limit the number of links within the piece itself: any post which reads like a blatant plug for your site will be rejected.
Is there a guarantee that your post will be used?
No. We do use the vast majority of guest posts submitted to The Fashion Police, but if we feel your post is not suitable for our site, or contains blatant advertising (see above), we reserve the right not to use it.
How to submit:
Email us your competed post, plus the image or images you’d like to use, and a short (1-2 line) author bio, which will be published at the bottom of your post.
