Wanted! Covetable Winter Coats from Coast

winter coats

Winter coats are boring. Well, most of them are, anyway. They’re also that unfortunate combination of super-expensive – generally one of the most expensive clothing-related purchases you ever make – but also super-dull: the kind of purchase you make because you HAVE to, not because you WANT to.

(Disclaimer: The Fashion Police are not fans of winter or its fashions. This colours our judgement in this matter. And by that we mean “it makes us totally biased”.)

These winter coats are different, though. They’re by Coast, who we’re more used to associating with wedding guest and bridesmaid attire, but who also do rather an excellent line in outerwear, bringing to their coats the same giant dose of “ooh, that’s fancy” they do to their dresses. They also make them in colours other than black and grey, which we find a huge bonus: yes, the weather may be dull and grey in winter, but that doesn’t mean your clothes have to be likewise. Could someone type that up as a memo please, and distribute it to every clothing brand that churns out boring, black outerwear every winter, with the occasional dash of red thrown in for “variety”?

These aren’t the cheapest winter coats you’ll ever find – these are all around the £220 mark – but a winter coat is the ultimate investment buy. Treat it right, and you’ll wear it for YEARS, probably putting it on every day during the depths of the winter, so a cheap n’ cheerful number can be a false economy. The higher price here is also matched by a higher than usual style quotient: if you were a fan of the pastels trend this summer, for instance, you might appreciate the opportunity to keep on wearing them into Autumn and Winter (yes, we hear what you’re saying about pale colours not being exactly practical for dirty weather, but as long as you stay out of the fields and stick to the city streets these were designed for, you should be OK); we also like the 60s vibe of the pale blue coat in the  middle, and the “ice princess” look of the winter white one.
