Victoria Rowell wears Barack Obama dress to the 2009 Emmys

Victoria Rowell

Victoria Rowell

It’s great to have beliefs. And it’s sometimes good to wear something a little bit different, especially when everyone else at the Emmys is sticking to the same old script.

But there’s really never a good time to wear someone else’s face on your torso. Or your legs. Or… well, all over your body, like Victoria Rowell here, who we’d never even heard off until she decided to wear Barack Obama to the Emmys.

What do you think? Funny, or just a big ol’ Fashion Faux Pas?

definitely a faux pas. How cute would a dress made out of the famous Obama red white and blue color block portrait as a print have been? Same statement, better execution.

It looks like a political bed sheet. If you must wear a president’s face on your dress, she could at least have gone with something more artistic. There is much more potential in the obama iconic red/blue print. It would still be ugly, but maybe not as cheap looking.

I think this is inspired by the kanga, which often has a saying or something included on it. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanga_%28African_garment%29.)

    I found some featuring Obama, with a similar colour-scheme, e.g. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_y08MbUnjVVo/SXfKJwClZ3I/AAAAAAAAAOc/OahYPZITkgo/s400/obama-kanga.jpg

Well, maybe that’s the point. You had never heard of her before this, and neither had I, so maybe she went a bit publicity desperate…that said, it’s a horrible execution of a bad idea, because not only is the print awful, the dress is shapeless and ugly. I would probably hate it even in the most exquisite of fabrics.

Imagine if somebody had shown up wearing a dress printed with Dubya’s face on it during the Bush years. Heh. They would have been run out of town.

Anyway, I like Obama but I think this dress is just silly. Hell even Obama probably thinks it is silly. But Victoria is getting attention of it and I’m sure that’s just what she wanted. I’ve heard her name before, but had no idea what she looked like or what show she was on, and now I know.

I love Victoria, she’s a very good actress, waiting for her to return from the dead on the Y&R. She normally wear’s very fashionable clothes. She’s probably going to auction this dress on Ebay. So, therefore she had to wear it one more time since the election and yes there’s probably somebody out there who would buy it.

Well, aside from the fact that I dislike Obama and all of his worshippers, this isn’t exactly a great looking dress. It looks like she just draped a curtain on herself, so it’s obviously not very flattering.

P.S. – Politicians – all of them – are manipulative people with hidden agendas. A person who wears something like this looks like an idiot in my opinion, since they’re buying into the image of a politician trying to be a well-liked celebrity.

Would have been semi-funny before the elections but now it`s no use. It`s an ugly dress with a weird print and I can`t even focus on the actress` face because I have 2-3 Obamas looking at me from her dress.

Actually, this might be have been inspired by an item of african garment called a kitenge, quite similar to a sarong. I lived in Zambia for 15 years and these simple garments are often used to relay cultural, and even political messages. Visiting the country last year, I myself saw many kitenges featuring the Zambian presidents face as well as Barack Obama’s. As President Obama is of African hertitage, this might have been a political statement instead of a fashion statement. Also i want to add that this type of garment is commonly worn through-out Africa, and is quite fashionable. If you look at the silhouette, its quite a complicated design ( and one that has graced the western catwalks more than once!) and so one might notice that a lot of thought has been put into this, and that maybe the point of this proceeds that of the fashion world?

THIS DRESS IS AN AWSOME STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT WHO HAD TO HAVE BEEN FLATTERED BY RECEIVING SUCH AN ENDORSEMENT FROM ANYONE, STAR, RED CARPET OR MAIN STREET, TO COUNTER THE ENDLESS CRITISIMS OF LATE. FOR THOSE WHO LACK INSIGHT, THIS FABRIC FROM GHANA IS ONE OF MANY OF THAT CULTURE WHERE CITIZENS WEAR PICTURES OF THEIR ESTEEMED LEADERS. THE STYLING IS IN LINE WITH FASHION THERE AND THE POINT IS TO SUPPORT, ENLIGHTEN AND SHARE SOMETHING FROM A DIFFERENT AREA SINCE WE HAVE A “DIFFERENT” PRESIDENT. OF COURSE WITH THIS CLOSED AND REJECTION MINDED SOCIETY THAT IS MORE OF A CHALLENGE THAN IT WAS FOR BARACK OBAMA TO BECOME OUR BLESSED COMMANDER AND CHIEF. MAY GOD’S FAVOR SURROUND HIM AS A SHIELD.
