Ugly Prom Dress of the Day: The ice dance costume

Ugly_prom_dress_3

Ah, figure skating, how we love it! The rigid hairdos, the American tan tights, the sequin-covered costumes! It’s a Fashion Police officer’s dream nightmare, but wait… why’s this 1980s figure-skating costume being sold as a prom dress? Oh. OH.

You know, normally we love us some puff sleeves, but we’re thinking it’s long past time these ones had a little appointment with ol’ Edward Scissorhands, no? And in fact, maybe Eddie there could see what he could do with the rest of it, too…

Where did this even come from? it looks like someone’s 80s closet reject. tell me a contemporary designer (using the term loosely) didn’t come up with this!

That was my best friend’s prom dress in high school. That EXACT dress. If I remember correctly, she bought it at one of those prom/bridal boutiques for somewhere around $300 and had to have it altered for $100. That was 1992. How funny!
My dress on the other hand, was a $50 lace LBD I found on the clearance rack in a department store. It was my go-to LBD for about the next ten years!
