Dress of the Day: Tibi floral print shift dress

Tibi_dressThey’re calling this “floral print” over at Net-a-Porter, but don’t be misled: just in case you haven’t noticed, there’s a big ol’ leopard on the front, with mummy and baby leopard on the back, too! If we’d just read that sentence without seeing the dress, we’d probably be imagining a crime of fashion here, but actually, we think this works: it’s a little bit quirky, and thanks to the long sleeves and simple cut, this is a dress you could probably wear during the day, too – always a good thing. This is £210 and is available from  Net-a-Porter

Nope. This just invokes bad memories of a similarly leopard printed sweater I owened in the 80’s. Not going there again, ever.

Lovely print, but I’m afraid I must call BS.
From the pic, it looks like a sensible option for a grown-up, but those of us hoping for a sensible 40″ nape to hem will be sadly disappointed. A quick check on NaP just confirms it. Those aren’t long sleeves – they’re bracelet length.
Sure, it’s a day dress. For a dwarf.

Even if the hem just above the knee, I still think this is appropriate for a ‘grown up’ and VERY versatile.Pair it with some long black boots, a white winter coat of equal length and some little black gloves and you’re good to go just about anywhere.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a beautiful dress, but please, give it a couple more inches. For a shift, this is just a bit too short.
I’m no stranger to a higher hemline, but being rather tall, this loose fitting mini-shift style always shows a bit more than I bargained for. It’s hard to look classy while sitting down, standing up, crossing and uncrossing legs, reaching up, bending forward and, well, moving around generally.
Plus, my preferred mode of transport is a bicycle. Nuff said 🙂

Being a short girl, a short, short hemline suits me just fine. 😀 I’d wear this. I’d prefer it with just the floral print (as much as I like leopards, I just associate this kind of thing with my childhood, in which I wore many things with huge animal prints on them). I think short dresses flatter me much more, especially with a nice pair of long black boots, just like Gokarm suggested.

Well height raises a good point. Just goes to show a great dress isn’t great for everyone. My sister, for instance, is WAY too tall for this dress, but my rather modest height is probably just right.

Nope, no “cougar” animal prints for this lady of a certain age.
