In the coming weeks, we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane and looking at fashion throughout the decades. We’re choosing the Top 4 fashion icons from every decade dating back to the 1960’s and we’re sharing them with our readers so that they can have some retro inspiration! Check out our style stars of the 60’s below:
Can you even think of 60’s style without picturing the iconic black dress and pearls from Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Audrey Hepburn basically cornered the market on chic, feminine fashion. She was known for simple, dainty ensembles that accentuated her petite figure and looked good for any and all occasions.
Did anyone epitomize confidence and sex appeal more than Cher in the 1960’s? Cher was bearing her midriff long before Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus! She was known for pushing the envelope and introducing the world to bold fashion choices by wearing unique patterns and revealing cuts.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Former First Lady Jackie O became a style star the moment she stepped out on the campaign trail with her husband. She showed that politician’s wives didn’t have to dress “proper” and dowdy – but rather chic and stylish. So many first ladies before her had been much older during their time in the spotlight. She brought a fresher, more modern fashion to the role and for that reason, she cemented her place in 60’s style.
Fashion model Twiggy was absolutely everywhere in the 60’s and for good reason. She was a pillar of the “Mod” movement and brought British fashion to the forefront in America. Her impact was so strong that we are seeing a resurgence of the Twiggy Mod dress on the runway this year!
