Not just an awards ceremony, but an awards ceremony for STYLE, these images are from last night’s Elle Style Awards, in London.
Our favorite fashion dementor, Kristen Stewart, picked up the Woman of the Year Award, but barely managed to crack a smile at that piece of news, so we’re thinking no more awards for Kristen, who is also grounded until she can improve her attitude, young lady!
Alexa Chung, meanwhile, managed to break out of the short skirt/ankle boots rut she’s been in for a while, but stopped short of combing her hair, Agyness Deyn took recession fashion a little too far by apparently cutting up an old carpet and sticking it to her dress, and the Olsen Twins wore SHRESSES.
Who wins your award for “Most Stylish”, though? Take a look at the gallery below…
When we saw that this picture set was captioned “Ashley Olsen goes jogging,” we thought, “Nah, she didn’t: she was probably out somewhere and just broke into a jog for a few seconds, because really, who wears a shirt to work out?”
Well, apparently Ashley does, because a closer look at the images in question revealed that, yes, she actually was working out, accompanied by boyfriend Justin Bartha, and wearing leggings, sneakers and an out-sized shirt. Will this look catch on as workout wear, do you think? Do you wear shirts like this to run in?
Some more pictures from last night’s Costime Istitute Gala at the Met, kicking off with Mary-Kate Olsen, above. We can’t quite put our fingers on what’s wrong with this look: maybe you can?
"The phaaaaaantom of the Opera is there… in a white dress by The Row…. "
We jest. It looks a lot like a couple of sheets draped together, and it's got the usual Olsen "I'm so small that everything's enormous on me" vibe about it, but.. .we kinda like Ashley Olsen in this. You?
OK, Mary-Kate, you know we love you, but lately we’ve been feeling like you sometimes take advantage of that love to wear things that we wouldn’t let anyone else get away with. Like your chunky velvet headband, for instance. Don’t think we don’t appreciate the, um, creativity of this ‘luxe John McEnroe’ look, but at the same time, don’t think we’re going to just keep on letting you off the hook with everything you try to sneak under the Fashion Police radar.
Of course, we could be wrong. We could ALL be wearing chunky velvet headbands like this soon, for all we know. But we don’t think so.
So, you know how we feel about the Olsen twins. We love them. Really, we do. And generally, we tend to think they can do no wrong. But then, we have this whole "we hate jumpsuits" thing going on, and it’s pretty hard to climb down from that position once you’ve adopted it, even when Mary-Kate Olsen wears one, and still manages to look like a little doll.
What do you think of M-K’s look here? Apart from the fact that, when you view the picture in hi-res, her Louboutins look about a size too big from her, and it’s hard to know how she managed to walk around like that, we mean? But what about the jumpsuit-neon-belt-handbag combo. Is it a case of love it, loathe it, or don’t-really-care-either-way?
This week Peta launches a new anti-fur campaign, which seems to mostly revolve around spitting out a lot of venom at the Olsen twins – or "the Trollsen Twins" as Peta have "hilariously" dubbed them. There’s a Trollsen Twins website, Trollsen Twins merchandise, a Trollsen Twins video, and the opportunity to dress up "Hairy Kate" and "Trashley".
Now, I don’t wear fur, and I agree with the sentiments behind Peta’s work. That said, as much as I don’t like fur, I don’t much like Peta either, or the childish, bullying way they go about trying to put their opinions across, and I can’t help thinking they could educate people much more effectively without all the venom and nastiness, which just serves to distract us from their real message. What does everyone else think: do you think this campaign is just a little bit OTT, or do you feel that the shock value is what’s needed here?
I love the Olsens. Love them. I particularly love the way that, no matter what they wear, they always look totally comfortable and confident – they wear their clothes, rather than allowing the clothes to wear them, which is one of the secrets of good style, I think.
I’m not quite sure what to think about this ensemble of Ashely’s though. I’ve been loving all of the flood-length jeans that’ve been around this summer, but I tend to think jeans this short look better with flats rather than huge platforms like these. Then again, any longer and they’d possibly just make her feet look huge in comparison to the rest of her (or even more huge, rather).
