Some might argue that a long brown/mauve dress is far too dowdy for the red carpet (or shiny floor, in this case), and has the power to make even Keira Knightley look a bit like a monk.
Others, however, might argue that NO dress is THAT powerful, and that Keira couldn’t possibly look bad if she tried. (Which, honestly, we think she sometimes does…)
Then, of course, there’s the issue of that very non-monk-like split, which Keira is using to YET AGAIN show us her chest. Just ONCE we’d like to see her wear something that doesn’t flash her breastbone. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
Which side are you on? Is Keira guilty or innocent?
The simple shape of this dress compensates for the multicoloured print, and although we don’t particularly like the dress, we do think Keira is managing to pull it off. What do you think?
We’ve read conflicting reviews of the Miu Miu outfit Keira Knightley wore to The Laurence Olivier Awards Nominees Luncheon Party this week, with some people horrified by the nude women depicted on the shirt and skirt, and others thinking Keira looked perfectly stylish and wonderfully… wait for it… “edgy”. We, however, are only interested in what YOU think, dear readers, so you’ll find some close-ups under the jump to help you decide whether Keira is innocent or guilty of committing crimes of fashion! Ah, isn’t that sweet – Keira Knightley off to her first day of work as a bank clerk in the 1980s!
Nah, we’re just kidding, she’s on the red carpet again, at the premiere of “Cheri”, and she’s working that Angelina-Jolie-esque, “Look, I’m so beautiful I can literally wear anything and you’ll still love me!” attitude.
Not to Keira: no, we really won’t. And we don’t care if it’s Chloe, and you were trying not to steal the limelight from your boyfriend – The Fashion Police see all!
We’re pleased to see Keira Knightley has managed to successfully fight the urge to wear dresses that reveal her breastbone on the red carpet. Well done, Keira! Her Alexis Mabille dress makes her look even more delicate and waif-like than usual, with that netting around the bust and hem, and was an interesting choice for Keira. We quite like – but don’t love – it (we think that hem looks a little cheap where the tulle attaches to it, although we know it’s anything but) but what’s with the shoes? Don’t get us wrong, they’re perfectly nice shoes in themselves, but with this dress? No. We’re not enjoying the current trend of clumpy shoes with delicate dresses at all, and these ones just don’t look right to us on Keira’s slender frame. What do you think, readers?
This is really more of an issue for Dollface rather than the Fashion Police, because while Keira’s outfit on the cover of US Vogue’s September 08 issue isn’t exactly jaw-dropping, it’s not going to get her arrested either. No, the problem here is the hair. Oh, good lord, the hair! Now, clearly hair isn’t our department, but even so, we just can’t help but ask ourselves: what did Keira Knightley do to the Vogue stylist that resulted in this particular “style”? And how is it that such a beautiful girl seems to unfailingly manage to produce such bad covers?
Keira, we feel for you here, we really do. Because whatever you did to that stylist, we just don’t think you could possibly have deserved this…
It’s been a while since we took a look at some celebrity fashion, so let’s kick things off again in style (sort of) by asking who you think was the Best Dressed of the Day (or, more accuratelt, Best Dressed of the Past Few Days):
Danni Minogue in red recording Australia’s Got Talent?
Naomi Watts attending a Trump party in a sequined, tuxedo-style dress?
Keira Knightley at the Edge of Love premiere?
or Claudia Schiffer in pale pink at a Vogue event?
You’ll find a poll under the jump, but don’t forget to leave us a comment telling us the reason for your choice!
Keira Knightley’s green silk dress stole was one of the biggest stars of Atonement, as far as we’re concerned. The dress was custom made for the movie by Jacqueline Durran, who’s up for an Oscar for her costume design, but if you have a spare few thousand dollars, you may just be able to get your hands on it. Because the dress was so fragile, multiple copies were made for Keira to wear during filming, and one of those copies is currently being auctioned off by Clothes Off Our Backs, with proceeds going to the Children’s Charity of Southern California.
Bidding is currently at $2500 (with the reserve price not yet met) for the US size 2 dress. Anyone fancy a flutter?
