Ah, our old friend Side Boob. Whoops, we mean Gwyneth Paltrow. No, seriously, that’s what we meant to say, we promise…

You’re all familiar with the Peep Toe Boot Rule, yes? It’s a Fashion Police rule of thumb which states that where peep toe boots are seen, another fashion crime will generally be occurring somewhere within the same outfit. It’s a handy guide for our officers on patrol, because it tells them which potential fashion criminals they need to be paying closer attention to. It doesn’t work every time, though, and these photos of Gwyneth Paltrow show.
Gwyneth has been crossing our radar more often than usual lately, due to the publicity she’s been doing for Contagion. We last saw her just a couple of days ago at the Venice Film Festival, and, at first glance, we thought she was wearing the same orange dress she wore on the red carpetĀ in the photo on the left. It’s actually a different dress, though, so we’ll just have to assume Gwyneth is going through a bit of an orange phase: we’re sure many of you will prefer it to the pale pink…
Back to the boots, though. We’ve looked at the two photos closely, and we can detect no other obvious fashion crimes in either of these two outfits (although you may well disagree), so we’re going to declare Gwyneth the exception which proves the rule. She’s not off the hook entirely, though: while we don’t hate these red peep toe boots at all, we still think both outfits would’ve looked better with another pair of shoes. Mind you, we think ANY outfit would look better with something other than peep toe boots, so we’re speaking from a position of complete and utter bias here.

Gwyneth Paltrow is currently busy promoting her new cookbook, ‘My Father’s Daughter’. Being completely undomesticated, The Fashion Police have no interest whatsoever in the book itself, but we are interested in the bright yellow dress Gwyneth wore to a book signing in Beverly Hills last week.
See, we like yellow. We know it’s not for everyone, and it’s far from an easy colour to wear, but it’s something a bit different, and it cheers us up. It’s also a bit Eastery: she could be Mama Chick in that colour, no? We also love the cut of this dress, although had our officers been there in person they’d have had to have taken an iron to the seams for her.

Another day, another gala…
This time it’s the “Chopard Celebrates 150 Years of Excellence” Gala, and we think Christina Ricci managed to guarantee herself a huge slice of the attention by turning up in this full-length green gown. Gwyneth Platrow also went floor-length for the occasion, in a departure from her usual “short skirt/high heels” look, while Kate Hudson was the one relying on giant heels to complete her look this time.
Who were your best and worst dressed?

Short skirt? Check. Fierce heels? Check. Without even looking at the image, we’ve have been able to tell this was Gwyneth Paltrow , just from the description alone! She’s really made this kind of look her trademark over the past couple of years, and while it was initially a bit of a departure, we think it’s a look that really suits her. Well, if you have legs like Gwyneth’s you’re going to want to show them off, aren’t you? Gwyn also gains points for always abiding by the “legs OR boobs” rule: no low-cut dresses here – or at least not while her legs are out!

It’s been a while now since Gwyneth Paltrow last featured on this site, and in that time we’re pleased to see Gwyn hasn’t lost any of that newly-daring sense of style she’d been cultivating last time we caught up with her . Here she is at the Iron Man 2, premiere, for instance, wearing a pair of Chris Martin’s silky boxers, a matching jacket, and her now trademark clumpy shoes.
Can shorts ever work on the red carpet? Do they work in this case? That’s for you to decide. And when you’re done casting judgment on Gwyneth, we have a whole slew of other celebrities in the gallery below for you to cast your vote upon…
