Quite a few celebrity outfits have jumped up and slapped us square in the face this week, but none so much as this Roksanda Ilincic dress, worn by Ginnifer Goodwin to Comic Con.
Now, the colour of this is what the fashion press would probably describe as “brave”. “Oh, she’s so brave!” they will coo. Or “She really knows how to take risks!” Those statements always make us smile, because, honestly, it’s a dress we’re talking about: she’s wearing clothes, not scaling Mount Everest. Still, we will concede that it takes a certain amount of guts to wear a colour as bright as this one – it’s a shade more commonly seen on construction workers than on the red carpet, but we actually think Ginnifer pulls it off here.
About that black patch in the middle of her stomach, though.. What IS that?
Is it like a bum bag/fanny pack? Does she have her cellphone and lipstick in there? We have no idea. We do love her hair, though.
What do you say? Is this dress Innocent or Guilty of committing crimes of fashion?
Pregnancy must make red blue carpet dressing even more of a challenge than it is anyway, but Kate Hudson rose to the challenge perfectly at the premiere of ‘Something Borrowed’ last night – we love that yellow!
No, that’s not a typo: amidst all of those high-end designer labels at last night’s MET Gala, there was also a fair bit of good ol’ Topshop. One high-street hero was Ginnifer Goodwin, whose emerald green dress is by Topshop Unique. This particular shade can be a bit “evil queen” sometimes. We mean that in a good way, of course. Well, the theme was ‘Savage Beauty’ after all…
Last week, Leighton Meester took on the style challenge presented by what we’ve come to think of as the “curtain dress” - i.e. it’s a normal dress from the knees up, but from the knees down? It’s pretty much a net curtain. Sometimes a particularly ugly one.
Judging by the comments on that post, Leighton’s brave attempt was not a success – or at least, not in the eyes of the the ladies and gentlemen of the Fashion Police Jury. The celebrities aren’t going to give up, though, Oh, hell to the no! They’ll continue to pit their fashion wits against the might of the curtain dress, and they’ll do it for as long as fashion designers deem the style to be, like, SO hot, dahlinks.
The latest celebrity to go head to head with The Dress is Ginnifer Goodwin, who wore this Chanel number to MOCA’s Annual Gala “The Artist’s Museum Happening”. Did she succeed where Leighton Meester failed? We think it’s a much better attempt, and we tend to find Ginnifer cute no matter what she does, but we’re letting you guys be the judge here, so give us your verdict in the comments box!
Now, we’ve always had a lot of time for Ginnifer Goodwin, mostly because she’s just so cute she generally manages to look adorable in whatever she wears. And because we want to pet her hair and pinch her little cheeks.
Maybe Ginnifer doesn’t want to be the “cute” girl any more, though. Or the “adorable” one. Maybe Ginnifer secretly wants to be the sexy girl. The tough girl. The girl who wears a slashed black mini dress and thigh-high boots to a cocktail reception at Saks because she is just that tough.
Hmmm. We’re not sure we like where this is going. We’d hate the bodice of this dress under any circumstances, of course, but we do have a bit of a weakness for thigh high boots, and it’s always refreshing to see someone decide to dress a little bit out of character, so we’re going to turn this one over to your, Fashion Police jurors.
What do you think of Ginnifer Goodwin’s new, sexy-girl look? A change for the better, or a change liable to get her thrown into Fashion Police jail?
Ginnifer Goodwin almost always manages to look adorable (we particularly love her with short hair!), but we’re not sure we love this red lace dress of hers. The nude underlay helps create a “look, I’m wearing nothing but a flimsy piece of red lace!” effect, which probably had people doing double-takes all night, and we’re not loving the frill at the neckline, either. Not our favourite look, then, but we are fairly heavily biased against lace anyway, so what do you think?
One of the few celebrities to go for a short dress rather than the usual floor-length gowns we tend to see on the red carpet, Ginnifer Goodwin wore this bright blue Vionnet dress to last night’s Golden Globes. We love the colour of this, but are less enamoured with the slightly saggy shape. Still, nice to see something just a little bit different, don’t you think?
Yes! A dress that isn’t red, black or white! Ginnifer Goodwin goes for a vibrant purple and a short crop, which we love. Read on for more Emmys fashion….
