Red Carpet Fashion: Diane Kruger at the premier of ‘Pour Elle’

Wow, what a beautiful dress! What a beautiful… 50s wedding dress! And there’s the rub: stark white dresses can look just a tad bridal, but we love the classic cut of this one, worn by Diane Kruger to the ‘Pour Elle’ premiere this weekend, and we love the way she’s worn it with a pair of bright red shoes, too.  We still look like she’s on her way to an (albeit stylish) 50s wedding, and that she could maybe stand to loose a couple of inches off the hem, but we’re feeling generous today, so we still find ourselves liking it.

What do you think of this look on Diane?

(Click image to view full size)Remember the sheer dresses from Dior’s 2008 Fall Couture show? The ones The Fashion Police got all squealy about in excitement, but thought no one would wear in real life, on account of the fact that they were… well, see through? Well, we were wrong. Here’s Diane Kruger in one of those very dresses. Now, if anyone can get away with wearing a sheer skirt it would be Diane Kruger, and we think she looks beautiful here (love the shoes, too!), although we still think this particular style probably isn’t going to work quite so well for mere mortals such as ourselves, who could probably expect to get jeers of horror and calls of “you forgot your underskirt*, love!” if we tried to wear it.

What do you think, readers? Would you wear this dress?

* Underskirt = slip/petticoat. UK, possibly Scottish usage.

Star Style on Trial: Diane Kruger’s crop top

We don’t want to alarm anyone unnecessarily here, but rumours have started to reach The Fashion Police informers that the crop top may be on the way back. Now, we didn’t really get into crop tops the first time round, mostly because our mums wouldn’t let us, and we probably won’t be slipping into them this time round either, if the rumours prove to be true, because we just don’t think anyone really needs to see our ribs.

That’s just us, though. Perhaps if we had ribs like Diane Kruger’s we’d think differently. Here she is at the Longchamp 60th anniversary celebration wearing high waist pants, tiny crop top, Longchamp clutch and a kicky little hat. For some reason she’s reminding us of Agyness Deyn here. Is there no escape?

What’s your verdict on the (supposed) return of the crop top, Fashion Force, and, more specifically, of Diane’s outfit in this picture? As for us, we think she looks cute – but at the same time, we’re hoping this is an isolated case of ‘crop top’…

Oh, waitress? Waitress, could you hurry along that bottle of champagne, please? The Fashion Police are thirsty. Actually… wait – don’t we know you from somewhere? It’s not…? It is! It’s little Diane Kruger, down on her luck and forced to wait tables at the Berlin premiere of The Other Boleyn Girl.

OK, so we exaggerate. This is not so much a waitress costume as it’s… Well, let’s just say that the top half could walk right into a turn of the century drama and feel right at home, while the bottom half would probably prefer to be doing the can-can on top of some bar. Which is kind of a weird combination, don’t you think?

What do you think? Should we be arresting Diane for crimes of fashion, or will we just let this one fly?
