Beyonce at the 2012 MET Costume Institute Gala

Fashion Police at the MET Costume Institute Gala: Beyonce

The MET’s Annual Costume Institute Gala is the fashion event of the year, as far as The Fashion Police is concerned. Forget the Oscar’s, with its safe, “let’s all dress as brides” vibe (Oh, how we long for the days of Celine Dion in a back-to-front suit, or Cher in…any of the things Cher likes to wear), the Costume Gala is where celebrities let their fashion flags fly, and don’t care whether we arrest them for it. And good for them, This year’s theme was  “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations”. Unless you were Beyonce. If you were Beyonce, the theme was, “Yes, I had a baby recently: SO?” And the conversation she will one day have with Blue Ivy Carter about…

Who wears short shorts and mixed patterns? Beyonce in St Tropez!

Having just launched our Best Dressed of the Day feature yesterday, we hit an immediate stumbling block today with the realisation that the combined efforts of all of the image agencies we use could not produce a single image of a well-dressed celebrity. Celebs, you done let us down. Please try harder tomorrow. Instead, then, here’s a photo of Beyonce, who’s currently on holiday with Jay Z in St. Tropez, leaving her yacht to head to Club 55. You’re welcome!

Lady Gaga – Telephone ft. Beyoncé

We’re sure most of you will have seen it already, but we love Lady Gaga (and yes, we say that completely without irony), and we thought you might like to see this exclusive glimpse of the inside of the Fashion Police jail, where this video was filmed*. We particularly like the way Gaga wears the police tape from our banner… * Not strictly true. We’d never lock up Gaga, anyway – the world is much more interesting with her in it!

Beyonce at the 2010 Grammy Awards

Fashion Police at the 2010 Grammys: Beyonce in Stephane Rolland

Beyonce’s approach to award shows tends to be along the lines of “If I dress like an awards, maybe someone will give me award,” and so it was that she stuck to a familiar silhouette for her arrival, later changing into a shiny gold Armani to sit in the audience. We quite like the Stephane Rolland dress above, but it seems to be taking action to restrain Beyonce’s breasts, and it’s doing it a little too enthusiastically for our liking. What did those boobs DO to deserve such treatment?

Jeggings & Treggings: what do you think of them?

It’s been a few months now since the word “jeggings” first appeared on the Fashion Police radar, and since then, the leggings-that-look-like-jeans have become as ubiquitous as skinny jeans were this time last year. Which is fitting, really, given the resemblance between the two. (For the uninitiated, “jeggings” are leggings that look like jeans, with a denim-like appearance, and “treggings” are leggings that look like trousers – i.e. they generally have pockets and a zip.) When the jeggings and treggings first began to infiltrate the fashion world, we weren’t quite sure about them. We thought they could be a fashion crime waiting to happen, basically, but now that they actually walk among us, and are basically just super-skinny jeans and,…

Red Carpet Watch: MTV Video Music Awards 2009 arrivals

We’ve already shown you what Lady Gaga wore to the MTV Music Video Awards last night, now here are some of the celebrities she was attempting to steal the limelight from.  Remember to tell us what you thought of these outfits – who was your favourite and least favourite? Above – Katy Perry, in a dress we could’ve sworn we’ve seen her in before…

Fashion Police at the Golden Globes: Salma Hayek and Beyonce

A quick lesson in “how to dress your curves” here, with Salma Hayek looking gorgeous in a white gown that really makes the most of her fabulous figure while Beyonce also looks gorgeous (Well, she’s Beyonce, it would be hard for her not to), but in a dress that looks like it’s a size too small, even although it probably isn’t. What do you think?

Bottoms Up! Butt-padded briefs give you a bottom like Beyonce

Look carefully at this picture. See those large white pads on each butt cheek? They’re making this model look like she has a pert, rounded bottom… when she actually doesn’t. They’re also making her look like she was the victim of some kind of butt-cheek related injury, but let’s not think too hard about that right now. Instead, let’s look at the picture again and ask ourselves: what would it feel like to try and sit down with those things in your pants? Would your jeans still fit you, or would you need to buy new ones to accommodate your pad-enhanced derriere? And would you buy a pair? If the answer to the last question was "abso-freaking-lutely", you can find…

Grammys Fashion Faceoff: Beyonce and Fergie in yellow

They both wore yellow. They both wore it pretty well. The question on everyone’s lips, though (OK, on our lips, then) is: who wore it best? While Beyonce sexed it up to The Grammys after party in the way that only Beyonce can, while Fergie played it uncharacteristically cool in this simple but striking gown. Tell us, though: who do you think wins this Grammy  edition of Star Style Wars?

On Trial: Beyonce’s patterned mini dress

Oh, for the love of Dog, someone please tell me we’re not still wearing sack-like shift dresses? I’d really hoped we could have left that fashion far behind us, in the winter of 2006, but if Beyonce here is anything to go by, it’s still going strong. Now, personally I think that if a dress can make even Beyonce look like she just might be pregnant, then that dress is a good one to avoid. Then again, maybe she’s just trying to cash in on the current trend for "being heavily pregnant but denying it for months, as if anyone actually cares." (Yes, J.Lo and Christina, I am looking at you…) What do you think of this dress? I don’t…

Cameron Diaz, Beyonce and Katie Holmes top People’s Best Dressed List 2007

It’s been a pretty good year for Cameron Diaz, fashion-wise at least, so no arguments from me on her position at the top of People’s Magazine’s Best Dressed List. I’m a little less convinced by the inclusion of Katie Holmes, mind you: she’s made some nice choices since she got herself That Haircut, but who can forget all of the disasters that came before it? Not me, anyway: we can forgive, but we certainly can’t forget, so I’d hold back on the offering of any fashion awards to Katie for the time being at least.

Not even Beyonce can get away with high waist trousers

Let’s be fair, here: in terms of high waisted trousers, Beyonce looks better in them than most. How could she not – she’s Beyonce for God’s sake. But  she doesn’t look quite as hot in them as she would in a pair of pants with a normal waist, does she? I mean, her hips dominate this picture, and given that Beyonce definitely isn’t what you’d call "hippy" that can’t be a good thing.  Can you imagine someone who did have big hips in these? CAN YOU IMAGINE IT, PEOPLE? Please, someone make the high waisted things go away. I can’t stand it much longer…

Fashion Police at The Oscars: Beyonce

Now, I know bridal style fashion was all the rage at the Golden Globes, so there was a good chance it would follow through to the Oscars, but this dress? This dress actually is a wedding dress. In fact, I can distinctly remember seeing it come down the Catwalk, complete with veil, at the Armani Prive show at Paris Couture Week. See! Anything you’d like to tell us, Beyonce? Hmmm? To be fair to Beyonce, it’s a beautiful wedding dress, and if anyone can get away with it, it’s her. Glad to see she left the veil at home, though. Rachel Weisz at 2007 The Oscars: This could have all gone horribly wrong… Allover satin is a hard look to…

Fashion Police at the Golden Globes: Beyonce

Oh, holy hell, Beyonce, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit… Did your mom make this dress for you? Did you make the fatal mistake of thinking, “Hell, my body is HAWT, I can totally get away with a shiny, bacofoil dress split RIGHT DOWN TO MY BELLY BUTTON, HA!” Did you, Beyonce? Because we are here to tell you you were wrong. What makes it worse? It’s the pose, Beyonce, the pose. Why did you do it to yourself?
