Diane Kruger Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2011/2012

Gold Star: Diane Kruger in Chanel at Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2011/2012

It will doubtless be too simple for some of you, but we liked Diane Kruger‘s look at the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2011/2012 enough to award her the Fashion Police Gold Star. The dress is (naturally) Chanel, the shoes are Christian Louboutin’s Piagalle spiked flats (We’d have preferred the heeled version of these, but the flats work almost as well, and it’s kinda refreshing to see flat shoes on the red carpet for a change), and the beret is… well, just the perfect little finishing touch. We’ll now be taking this dress into protective Fashion Police custody. For its own safety, you understand… [Image: PRPhotos.com]

Winter Clothing Essentials: our winter wish list

We’ve been asked a few times now what we consider to be winter clothing essentials, and now that the summer stock is all on sale and the winter clothing collections are starting to trickle in, we figured now was a good time to put together our winter wish list. In doing this, we have to note that we’ve put together this list from the perspective of people who live in a cold climate, with even colder winters: obviously if you live somewhere warmer, your winter wish list will look completely different – please feel free to tell us about it in the comments! 1. A great coat If we could only purchase one thing for winter, a great (and warm!)…

Wanted! Helene Berman Bow Beret

As far as The Fashion Police are concerned, people don’t wear hats often enough. Or they do, but they tend to be baseball hats, or woolly, tea-cosy style knitted creations, and where’s the fun – or glamour – in that? There’s plenty of both fun and glamour in this bow beret by Helene Berman. We think "cute" is the only word for this hat, and even although August’s Cosmopolitan cautioned its readers to never wear berets, ever, we’d have to respectfully disagree, and say that you can wear this one without any fear of Fashion Police arrest. We certainly will be…

Dress of the Day: Thread Social wool bouclé sweater dress

We’re still searching out sweater dresses to see us through the winter. At the moment, this one by Thread Social is at the top of our wish list. There’s something chic and French-looking about this dress, like it’s just begging to be worn with a beret or something. Maybe not… The short sleeves are always an issue for us, given that our Fashion Police HQ is located in the frozen north, and short sleeves can only be worn on about two days of the year, but a thin, long-sleeved t-shirt could work underneath, and long black leather gloves would be great with this when it’s time to leave the house. Great with black opaque tights and heels, this is £320…

Fall Preview: Primark Autumn/Winter 08

They’ve been coming in for a fair bit of criticism lately, but Primark’s Autumn/Winter 08 collection is probably a pretty good indication of what women in the UK will actually be wearing this winter (or is it?) so without further ado, let’s take a look at it – and don’t forget to tell us what you think! Juliette Lewis in pink leggings at LA Fashion Week

Juliette Lewis is in Culver City, California, attending some fashion shows this week. In honour of the occasion, Juliette has busted out the pink leggings and baggy blue shorts, which she’s accessoried with a chunky necklace and wooly beret. What Juliette knows, you see, is that if you want to get down with the Fash Pack, you gotta look a little bit "kooky". A little bit "quirky". A little bit like you got dressed in the dark this morning, but that’s OK, because it’s totally "ironic" and, like, a meaningful statement on personal identity. We hope that’s why she’s dressed like this, anyway. Anyone got any better ideas?

Dress of the Day: Leather mini dress from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Fall 2008

Marc, we know we’ve given you a hard time for some of your more questionable shoe designs over the years, but we’d like to commend you for this leather mini dress, which is so fabulous that we’ve decided to make it our Dress of the Day. If we had the legs for it, we’d totally wear this with the black beret and opaque tights you’ve suggested here: we love the stand up collar and even although we’ve never really been fans of leather dresses, we think we could make an exception for this one. Sadly, we don’t have the legs, or, indeed, the money. But well done, anyway. More Dresses More from New York Fashion Week
