Sultana Pants: the (baggy) shape of things to come?

Sultana-pants

We've waited a long time for drop-crotch pants to finally loosen their grip on the fashion world, but just when we thought it was safe to go back into the shops, along come Sultana pants to take their place.

These have the benefit of having the crotch in its rightful place (i.e. not sagging between the knees)), but they're voluminous of leg and elasticated of ankle, and these facts, especially occurring together like this, obviously give us cause for concern. Those of us who aren't blessed in the height department are probably going to want to steer clear of these, but what about the rest of you? Will you be welcoming sultana pants as the new overlords of legwear? If you will be, these ones are $30 from Karmaloop.

I can’t help but think that these are related to MC Hammer’s new reality show…

I agree, holly…they look like wonderful, comfortable pants…to where at home. Otherwise, all I see is a bland Jasmine from Aladdin. They seem like they would be hard to actually wear walking around, running errands and such.

To me, they don’t look comfortable at all. Wouldn’t all that extra fabric just get in the way? Kinda like wearing pyjamas a size or two too big – it’s not comfortable, it’s just annoying, and it keeps enveloping you. Who’d like to become a prisoner of their own trousers?

Well, they seem okay for casual situations. At least they aren’t sheer and, as you say, the crotch is in the right place. I have no ethical problems with this one.

I’m a tall girl but nope, wouldn’t wear them. I absolutely loath pants that are elasticated at the ankle.. I’ll just stick to my skinny jeans thank you;)

there’s no such thing as “sultana” pants
its a fancy word for sweat pants!
    those are sweat pants
    they’re grey
    elastic waist
    baggy
if that model took off her heels and put on a pair of $4 sandles or sneakers, we would think she was sick at home or on her way to the gym.

I somehow doubt someone would wear these to the gym, they’d get caught up in all the machinery.
Yeah, these are awful. Crotch in the right place or no crotch in the right place. Also, I saw a girl in purple pants like these the other day and I couldn’t figure out what they were, so this has been informative!

i will never wear such ugly pants, not even in the house when i`m alone because i could trip on them.
i`d rather go out lady gaga style, without pants, rather than wear these atrocities.

I also saw a man wearing the ones described by Rebecca a couple of months ago. And yesterday, a woman wearing flowery elasticated waist drop-crotch harem pants who had pulled the waist up really high. This should give you a rough idea of the outfit (if you imagine pink flowers instead of leopard spots):

    Yuck.
Don’t you just LOVE the shoes though?
Speaking of which, didn’t the Fashion Police feature those shoes (or something similar) once? Or is my memory failing me??

Definitely at-home pants. Imagine how you’d look in public with all that extra material when you sit down.
