Style Trial: Tiered Denim Miniskirt by RED Valentino

denim miniskirt

Is it ever OK to wear a ruffled denim mini-skirt, Fashion Jurors? That is the difficult question put before you today. We’re thinking the answer is “probably not”. Or, at least, not unless you’re:

a) Very, very young

or

b) An actual cowgirl. Yee-haw.

And maybe not even then, to be completely honest.

Red Valentino not only think it’s OK to wear such an item, however, they also think it’s worth paying $250 for. Should we arrest them? Or can you totally imagine yourself “rocking” this?

What is wrong with u FP?! Of course, it’s ok to wear a ruffled denim skirt! If you under 25 y.o., then definitely yes!

The only person I could see wearing that is my 8 year old niece. But I can definitely see myself wearing those shoes. Hand them over in my size and the skirt can go free…

Not post puberty — and you could probably get it in children’s sizes at Walmart for less than $10.

My Daughter would look cute, but she is young and a cowgirl.

The skirt is horrifying, but less so than the shorts! I’m loving the shoes though!

I live in Fort Worth, Texas (aka Cowtown), and I will admit to occasionally hitting up a country music bar and enjoying an icy cold Shiner Bock. This skirt, with my cowgirl boots, would work well for said outing. However, I’m not willing to part with $250 for what is essentially part of my grown-up Halloween costume. Nope.

I am currently living in Japan, and this kind of thing is pretty common here! Lots of girls wear short skirts to make their legs look longer, and the “cutesy” style is very popular. I wouldn’t wear it, but I wouldn’t consider it a crime of fashion if I spotted it on others!

To be honest, this isn’t NEARLY as bad as it could be. I’m wary of ruffles as it is, but this isn’t horrible. My eyes aren’t bleeding. I’ve seen much worse things done with denim. (Do keep in mind that this is coming from someone who usually hates denim topwear of any kind, even jackets.)
