Style Stealer: Dorothy Perkins Vs Preen dresses

Preen-vs-dorothy-perkins

Judging by the reaction this Preen mini dress got when Gwyneth Paltrow wore it last week, it's probably not something many of you are going to want to splash out, £1,280 on. Dorothy Perkins black insert panel tube dress, however, is only £30, and while it's by no means a copy of the Preen number, it does borrow that "someone just ripped the top layer off my dress!" feel, as well as the body-con shape and black/silver colours.

Those of you looking for the Preen(ish) look on a budget can buy the dress on the right from Dorothy Perkins. If you'd prefer to stick with the origial, it's £1,280 at Net-a-Porter.

I actually prefer the Dorothy Perkins version. I also didn’t really like the Preen dress on Gwyneth.

It’s kind of funny, but often when you show the “knockoff” version of something, I like the knockoff’s style better.

The Dorothy Perkins one is much cuter.

I agree with everyone else; the Dorothy Perkins version is way better. I was confused at first and thought it was the designer dress and the Preen was the knockoff.

The Preen is going for this liquid flowing sort of effect, but the way the silver blobs are arranged, it just doesn’t work. And it looks awful, to boot.
The Perkins, on the other hand, has these very sharp, bold slashes of silver on it, making a much sharper statement and is just all-around a better looking dress.
    No contest, really.
Although, I think the Preen could make it work in some other color combination.

Go Dottie! The sharp, inward-angled slashes would actually be flattering on many figures. The Preen made Gwynnie look like a lava lamp.
