Style on trial: Topshop’s blue embroidered pinafore dress

topshop blue embroidered pinafore dress

We’re a little torn on this dress. On the one hand, it’s kitschy and nostalgic and reminds us of childhood playdates. But on the other, well, frankly it’s all a bit the hills are alive! We suppose we should at least be grateful it doesn’t come in curtain fabric with a matching headscarf…

What do you think: The Sound of Music or super cute?

Blue Embroidered Pinafore Dress, £46 from Topshop.

This is not even Sound of Music, this is “Dress like a Toddler”. Meaning: Don’t!

I think it’s cute! Styled the right way, maybe with a blouse or black tee… c: I would certainly wear it.

I’d wear it if it was a skirt. As a jumper, it’s a little too close to a uniform I wore in elementary school.

No. I don’t think so. No and no. It is super cute, but for a 10 years old.

The picture just looks like a little kid’s outfit, however, I would be curious to see how it would look on… Rompers have been very popular but I think the design on this dress might be a bit too costumey. People don’t usually want to look like they are dressed in giant toddler clothes.

Super-cute but you’d have to be very careful what you wore it with to stop it tipping over into silly.

It’d be adorable on a child, but I’d only wear something like it if that something was an apron.

I can see this as an apron, but not a dress. the white embroidering limits it from being anything more

Too much The Sound of Music for me! Especially since I can’t help picturing it with a starched white blouse with billowy sleeves…

If the top part didn’t look like overalls, my opinion of this dress would be much better.

I think it’s really cute , in a 7os denim sorta feel … It will look better styled as a fit and flare denim dress though rather than an overall

If it were just the skirt, I’d wear it in a heartbeat. But as is? No.

this is one of those things that I would like to see styled on a body before making a judgment about it. I think it looks quite toddlerish, but someone could probably do something cute with it.

I think it’s cute. Styled right of course. Reminds me of Holland, and The Sound of Music, but in a good way!
