Style on Trial: Concertina technique dress from Karen Millen

Karen-millen-concertina-dre

We really have to admire Karen Millen for making a dress with a skirt that looks suspiciously like the paper chains we used to make as Christmas decorations when we were in school. Or like pastry. Because everyone loves pasty, no? Mmmm, pastry!

Maybe the red and green colours are to blame for adding to our impression that these dresses look more decorative than wearable, of course, but for some reason we're thinking of Santa's little elves now. And humming jingle bells.

What say you, readers? Do you love this look? Hate it? Feel totally indifferent in every way? Tell us!

I wouldn’t wear this, looks sort of funny. But I love the shape of the dress generally, it’s just the concertina bits that are weird.

The silhouette is really pretty! It wouldn’t work on some body types, I’m sure, but I think they’re cute 😀

I think I love them, even if the bottom sort of reminds me of tissue paper sculptures.

I kinda love them, specially the green but I can’t imagine wearing them for anything but fancy dress.

I love love love the shape! I think ii would look really pretty, but the skirt is just too impractical… do designers forget that people actually sit down at some point?

Well looking at the dresses a second time they look sort of pretty, but on first glance I have to admit I immediately thought of Thai ladyboys.

I would definitely wear that to a Christmas party. Normally I prefer simple dresses, but I love these, especially the green.

Hm, I can’t decide if I like them of not. I’d probably have to see them on a real person.

I like them. And I didn’t think Christmas decs until I read it – perhaps having the red and green next to each other makes it seem more so.

I assume there’s a slip under the skirt? I have to say, though, that the style reminds me of nothing so much as an Elizabethan ruff that headed south.

I actually quite like these dresses – I wouldn’t mind wearing them! Although I’d imagine that if there was a yellowy/orangey version of this dress, it would definitely remind me of a pineapple.

I wouldn’t wear them, but if someone sent them down the runway on “Project Runway” I’d think they were cool. I guess that’s a thumbs up from me.

At first, I only saw the bodices and thought these dresses were adorable. Why on trial? But then I saw the skirts which reminded me of a pinata. I’m sure some daring girl could pull it off though.

I really like this! I think i’d like it better with a simpler torso piece, with none of the folding detail. (It just looks like a little too much) But, I still think it’s cute. 🙂 Makes me think of something a ballerina would wear in the Nutcracker, in a good kind of way.:)

Well, I tried in on at the shop and it is a beautiful dress, really fits well and suprisingly flattering. Okay so it looks a bit unsual but if it makes you look good then I am happy with it.
I am wearing it to a summer ball with very high sandals.
