Stuck-Together-Clothes Crimes: Bless shirt with attached bag

You know all those times we’ve spoken about stuck-together-clothes and we’ve jokingly said, “What’s next? Shirts with BAGS attached?” And then we all laughed, because, seriously: AS IF. Sure, fashion can get a little crazy from time to time, but no one would actually attach a bag to a shirt, surely?

Oh.

Bless would do it, wouldn’t they? And, indeed, they have! Yoox.com describe this as a shirt with “attached pocket”, but COME ON, Yoox, we’re not blind! When you can tuck it under your arm, that ain’t no “pocket”. That’s a BAG. And it’s attached to a SHIRT, bringing to mind all kinds of questions, such as: how do you put stuff into it? Do you have to raise your hand in the air, like you just don’t care? Or do you perhaps pack your shirt before you put it on. Wouldn’t it be annoying having all that fabric tucked under your arms at all times? And imagine the conversations you’d have:

“Hi, good to see you: let me take your bag…”
“Um, no, it’s attached to my shirt, actually.”
“…”

We’re not impressed, then. If you are, however, this does, at least, have the advantage of being relatively cheap, espeically given that it’s essentially a “two for the price of one” offer. Get it at Yoox, where it’s £45.

At first I thought, “OK, at least it deals with the problem of your bag always slipping off your shoulder,” as the top does look detachable (via the button). But zoom in at the shop site and you can see the bottom of the bag is sewed to the side of the shirt. And worse still, if you are using it as a bag, have taken the strap off because you’re sitting down (and don’t want to look like you’re waiting for an opportunity to run off), and forget to button it back when you stand up, you’ll find its contents all over the floor.

If I saw someone walking down the street wearing this top, I would probably be thinking that they have 3 arms. It also looks like a hospital gown, so that makes it slightly more disturbing than it already is..

At least you won’t forget your purse. I tend to do that all the time.
