Spot the Difference: Victoria Beckham and Closet grey peplum dresses

Closet aren’t the first brand to “be inspired” by Victoria Beckhams’ Carmontelle peplum dress: they’re simply the most recent. Still, in the interests of policing the world of fashion, let the record reflect that the dress on the right of the image above looks very much like the one on the left, with one of the main differences being that you’ll only pay £30 for the copy (Click here to buy it from Dorothy Perkins), while the original would’ve set you back £2,095 – if, of course, it hadn’t been an almost-instant sell-out.

Closet’s dress has a shorter skirt and some different tailoring on the bodice: which do you prefer (if either)?

I tried the Closet one on recently – it’s actually much more of a pink in real life: http://yfrog.com/jcq9ibj

It’s a lovely shape but thin fabric and unlined, and the sizing comes up small (to the point that Dorothy Perkins actually suggest buying a size up in Closet compared to their own stuff).

I liked the Closet one at first glance, without knowing that it was the cheaper of the two. I am on the shorter side, so a shorter skirt would work better for my body, and the Closet dress just looks like it would give you a softer sillouette than Beckham’s. I also like the dart detail under the bust.

Oh I’ve just seen what it looks like at the back on netaporter and it’s utterly gorgeous that’ll be why it’s more expensive lol

I prefer the expensive version because I like the neat tailoring of the bodice, as opposed to the untailored gathers of the DP version. The expensive one is better proportioned too. But then it ought to be! Would I pay god knows how much for it? Not on your life.
Also, I don’t get peplums. There’s something very dressed-up suburban about them.

i like them both, but still it’s not like Victoria Beckham invented and patented the peplum dress, she just perfected it 🙂 xx

I like the Beckham one. I think it’d be even prettier with a few strands of really nice pearls and a pair of sexy black pumps.

Hmmm… I like the bodice on the Closet one, but the ruffle and skirt of the Beckham one. Now if only I had the money to buy, disassemble, and reassemble…
