Sheer skirts and dresses land Valentino in Fashion Police jail

Just in case any of you were thinking – or perhaps hoping – that the “trend” for totally sheer items of clothing had finally died, and that designers had stopped trying to charge us hundreds of pounds for clothes that barely even exist, we present evidence to the contrary, courtesy of Valentino. Well, at least the skirt could come in handy as a slip, albeit a pretty expensive one. As for the shress, well, we can only hope no-one would actually try to wear it like that, hmm?

We must admit, we’re really curious to know who’s actually BUYING sheer clothes in a big enough quantity to justify the continued production of them by so many designers. Surely Lady Gaga can’t be keeping them ALL afloat?

I think that skirt would be really nice if it had a plain black layer under it. Why would anyone wear sheer dresses/skirts though?

My theory: some people feel the need to bare as much skin as possible at all times – it’s a means to an end if you get my drift. Some places have dress codes that don’t permit very very short skirts / tiny tops. This is a way of getting round the dress code while still sending out the appropriate signals.

They would be so lovely if they were in any way, shape or form wearable!

I’d think about putting a slip underneath them, but I always find 2 layers end up creased and bulging.

Perhaps they are intended for bedroom activities? I like the dress, if the sleeves weren’t weird and the bands were gone. But I’d wear it over something.

The one on the left would be just beautiful as a nightgown.
