Fashion Trends: Sequin and shiny leggings

Shiny_leggings

Did you hope the legging revival that started a few years ago would be over by now? Dream on, folks: not only are our legging overlords still going strong, they’ve actually started to evolve and are now available in everything from basic black to crazy patterns, sequins and shiny fabrics. It’s the last two we want to ask you about today: the shiny or sequined legging is particularly hot right now, with the leggings in question used to create a bit of a rock-chic look when worn with ankle boots and long line tops, or to add a bit of edge to a girlie dress.

What do you think of the shiny/sequined leggings? We love them. There, we said it. We’re even surprising ourselves here, but when they’re worn right, we think they can look fabulous. Tell us, though: what do you think?

L-R: DAY Birger et Mikkelsen sequin sprayed leggings, £165, Net-a-Porter; Super glossy leggings, £18, Topshop; Shiny leggings, £29, American Apparel

    Leggings are wrong. Period.
And shiny legging are even more wrong.
It’s like saying, “I know, how about we find a trend that will make everyone in the world’s arses look like the size of a planet.” It’s just plain creul.

I don’t love them, certainly not on me anyway. I do think they have the potential to be cute on someone younger and skinner than me though. Regular leggings are basically pointless because thay aren’t doing anything that a pair of actual pants or a pair of tights can’t do better. Sequined leggings on the other hand…well tights can’t do that and all-over sequined pants would just be odd so they kind of fill a niche.

I’m… actually really tempted to get a pair.

There’s a million reasons why leggings is a trend that won’t die. People like to wear them. They’re more resilient than panty hose or tights and they’re comfortable. I don’t wear them myself because they don’t suit my lifestyle but they make sense. They may not be the prettiest thing in the world, but they’re popular for a reason. Maybe I’ll blog about the various excuses for leggings tonight.

I’m not feeling the leggings trend. I’ll stick to matte black leggings with my tunic tops.

I love everything with sequins on and leggings are no exception. The shiny ones aren’t doing it for me though.

I like shiny, so yes. I’m hoping we won’t revert back to the 80’s when everyone wore spandex no matter what size you were.. wait..

I have always liked plain black leggings, worn under a skirt or dress. (I was known to wear them with a long top 20 years ago, but then it was the 80’s…)
Shiny might work with an appropriate outfit in the right sort of club, but the sequinned ones look like they’re made for the street corner…

I adore them, I’m not sure my legs would look fabulous in them though. I have muscular legs so I might end up looking like a well-trained speedskater.

Does the membership to the dance school/gymnastics team come with the leggings, or do you have to buy it separately?

I liked leggings…when I had the legs to wear them in elementary school in the early ’90s. But now? No way. Leggings will not go away unfortunately, especially with celebrities like Lindsay Lohan creating their own lines.

WARNING! WARNING! Black pudding/body bag alert!!! It’s all about size with this one, it depends on whats going into them for how they will look. Too fat and you look like a clotted blood based sausage and too thin and you look like victim on CSI.
Saw some in Top Shop yesterday that were horizontal bands of nylon (like stockings) and lycra. I can only imagine they look a bit ‘Bertie Basset’ on!
    Be warned!

I just wish I had the figure to pull them off! I think they look edgy, get the thumbs up from me (on other people I’ll add again!)

I’m sure they have the potential to be cute, but I’m just not a fan. It reminds me of the “wet” look on clothes, which I’ve always hated.

I am very interested to know the age of the women who are making all the comments about how awful leggings are.
    Especially the person who made this comment;
‘It’s like saying, “I know, how about we find a trend that will make everyone in the world’s arses look like the size of a planet.” It’s just plain cruel.’
Leggings were not intended to suit everyone on the planet, likewise with any other fashion trend. The people making these comments obviously have no idea or interest in fashion when leggings have been one of the most prominent reoccuring fashion trends for a long time.
Just because it doesnt suit you or you dont like it doesnt mean it ‘is just wrong, period.’
Items such as leggings are obviously common as the public generally like them, but uf yiu are really interestedin fashion you will know your body type and what suits you.

Super sexy and chic with booties, I love them.
Shiny wet-look black are the best.
