Save or Splurge: Stripe short-sleeved shirts by Vivienne Westwood and Next

Save-or-splurge-westwood

These "shirts" are similar only in terms of the colour (and even that isn't identical), but as we looked at the Next shirt, we thought it had a bit of a "Vivienne Westwood" feel about it, and then when we tracked down an ACTUAL red and white stripe shirt by Vivienne Westwood… we actually liked the Next version better.

And the world stood still, the sun started to revolve around it, and pigs took to the sky on wings of gold. THAT'S how surprised we were to discover that we liked something by NEXT better than something by The Good Dame Viv.

What about you, though, readers? Assuming you were in the market for a red and white stripey shirt, would you rather save or splurge?

The Next one is gorgeous – I love the collar. It kinda reminds me of some of the nice shirts in River Island lately. The Westwood one is a bit boring (especially for that price!).

I am so distracted by how thin the models arms are and that her hands are a different colour from her arms I can’t focus on the shirts.

I don’t wear button downs in the first place, but if I did, I…I don’t like that big frou frou collar. I know it would always be out of place on me. But I can’t see justifying the designer price tag for what is essencially a button down shirt and nothing more. I don’t think I’d bother with either.

Funny, before I scrolled down I would have thought that the Next shirt was the designer one. In this case, I would definitely save!

The designer one looks like a pretty standard shirt. I really can’t see what makes it special enough to spend all that money. The Next one isn’t my style, but it is definitely nicer, or at least worth what they charge for it.

I don’t think it’s worth the money, but I like the Vivian Westwood better, because it’s simple. In this case I think simple works the best.

I like the Next one more but doubt it’d ever fit me 🙁 The Viv one would go better with a waistcoat though… (Thinking of interview outfit ideas…)

The Next one has sort of a Princess-y feel to it. It’s a bit whimsical.
The Vivienne shirt is, well, too plain. Far too plain for that pricetag, certianly.

You spelled “splurge” wrong in the picture.
And that’s actually the one I’d buy. 🙂

I think the Next one looks way more designer-y. but if the Westwood shirt fit me perfectly and was self-laundering, then I would go with that one!

The Next shirt is really quite pretty, but i feel like I’d look better in the Westwood one. It seems more fitted and versatile.
Not that I could afford the Westwood one. So, Save.

The next one is too fussy. If the Viv shirt had a fit to match the price tag, I would splurge. There is a reason simple, classic clothes–black pants, white shirts, LBDs, etc.–cost more. Retailers know that buyers won’t replace them as quickly as trendier, flashier pieces. They have to make up their profits in one sale.

I LOVE striped button downs! http://www.Shopmasons.com has a bold black and white button down. I really like the collar on it too.

I don’t really like either. I prefer black and white stripes.

I actually prefer the “Save” option, for once. I like the sort of origami-style folding.
