More Cannes Fashion – Evangeline Lilly, Salma Hayek and Naomi Watts

The Cannes red carpet shots just keep on coming, and The Fashion Police have been making surprisingly few arrests! Stars are quietly bringing out the glamour this year. Perhaps it’s the more laid-back atmosphere at the film festival, but it seems to be encouraging some beautiful choices. Evangeline Lilly, who already stunned in a colorful ombre fringe Emilio Pucci mini at the You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger premiere, opted to go more formal for the The Princess of Montpensier premiere yesterday in a floor sweeping gray lace-overlay Valentino.

Salma Hayek stunned again at the premiere of Wall Street, Money Never Sleeps. While she’s looked gorgeous all week, this is THE red for her and the fit on this silk georgette Gucci Premiere is impeccable. The drape at the waist and hips and red glass bugle-bead embroidery are only out-shadowed by the lady’s gorgeous gams on display with a thigh-high slit. The slit also gives us a good look at Hayek’s red satin peep-toe platforms.

The Gucci Premiere gown everyone’s really talking about, though, is Naomi Watt’s choice for You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. The pale pink strapless gown featured all-over ribbon-effect embellishment with square, silver sequins throughout. She definitely sparkled, and sparked much debate over news she is to play Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming biopic.

I really don’t like the idea of Naomi Watts playing Marylin Monroe (why do we need anyone to play her anyway? She has movies you can go out and watch that actually have HER in them). Now, I know that comments about weight aren’t usually appreciated but please hear me out; let’s all agree that Naomi Watts is well, quite thin. I mean just look at those collar bones! And that’s fine, if that’s how thin she wants to be and she can keep it up in a healthy way more power to her. However, let’s also all agree that Marylin Monroe was ummm…not that thin. She wasn’t hugely fat or anything, but she definitely had some extra on her. And I really don’t like this idea of recasting a thin actress to play her because, a very few exceptions, we can’t accept a girl Marylin’s size in Hollywood today (and most of those exceptions are only in comedies, they aren’t allowed to be our “sexy” role models). It’s like those awful pictures of Marylin where they have photoshopped her down to a “better” size. I just feel if they HAVE to make a movie with someone else playing her, the actress should actually look like her, belly and all. End rant. (Btw the dress is gorgeous)

Kudos to Robyn! I agree with everything you said…
For me Selma is the clear winner for the best dress of the three…and of the three I’d rather have her play Maralyn…at least she looks slightlyl more like the old style bombshell! 🙂

    I can’t really decide…
    All three are very pretty
But I think my winner is Salma Hayek, she has a little of an argentine tango look going on, just love it…

I really think Salma looks awesome though they are all pretty.I don’t think Naomi would make a good Marilyn there is no one out there like Marilyn so it would be hard to choose an actress to play her but a good pick if there was a choice would be Christina Hendricks.
