Meet Joe: the totally recycled tote bag that used to be a suit

Here at The Fashion Police, we’re all for recycling clothes. Crocs, for instance, make great plant pots, and harem pants make great.. well, they make great adult diapers, don’t they?

What about turning a man’s suit into a tote bag, though? That’s what Korean brand Eco Party have done, turning a shirt, tie and suit jacket into a tote bag they’ve called “Joe”. Even the handles are recycled (they’re made from leather taken from old couches), and each suit/bag is completely unique and lovingly handcrafted.

What do you think, though? The worlds of suits and bags have collided: but do you love the results? Buy one here if you do…

I think it’s kinda tacky and gimmicky.

I think it’s cute and a little kitsch. That said, I would never in a million years pay anything more than about £20 for one. Ever.

I think I would like it more if it was more discreetly done. Something that makes people think, ‘Wow, that is a suit!’

I’d get one made of a black suit and black tie, but frankly, this seems like something that would only be praised if a fashion student did it in collaberation with a charity shop.

This is actually a huge waste of fabric. To get this look, they have to layer the suit and the shirt, right? Creating redundant layers of fabric, and wasting what could be recycled into paper stock or if it is in good shape, sold for someone else to wear. I don’t think this is a good green solution.

I make tote bags out of vintage fabric that is on it’s way to a landfill. That make more sense to me, and is a lot cuter than a folded suit.

Personally I have nothing against the bag…that said, I myself wouldn’t buy one. In any case, I was quickly distracted by the glaringly bright blue socks the model is wearing.
