Mariah Carey blings it up at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala

Mariah Carey in sparkly black dress and jewelleryHmmm. You know, we don’t hate this. Which is actually quite surprising, because it’s Mariah Carey, who has enjoyed automatic Fashion Criminal status here for… well, forever, basically.

Something’s preventing us from loving it, too, though, and we can’t quite put our fingers on it. Can you? Or do you just want to cast this dress into the bleak depths of the Fashion Police jail?

It’s the length. You can’t even see her toes, let alone her shoes. If it was cocktail length, it would be amazing.

      Totally agree with this comment.

Plus the fact it seems to be smashing her breasts a bit in trying to keep them within the dress.

Good point – she does look like the Foot Snatcher got to her!

It needs to flare out at the bottom. Otherwise its just too skintight.

Again it’s too tight. Look at her breasts, it seems if she inhales too deeply she might burst out of that dress.
Also this short bolero(?) looks ridiculous.

I think that’s Mariah’s idea of “sexy” unfortunately – it’s pretty much par for the course with her!

It’s too tight, as with everything else she wears. When clothes are too tight they look uncomfortable and that distracts me, no matter how amazing the design may be.

It’s too much “Mariah” – same thing she wears all the time, just in different colors. And as previous posters have said, it’s too tight, too long and too bling. Maybe if she did something different with her hair or found a new pose (really, the hands-on-hips-and-thrust-chest-out pose is not flattering to anyone that’s not in a Mr. America contest) we could overlook the sameness of everything else.

I agree with the other commenters, but I put “love it!” just because it’s way better than I would expect from her!
