Style on Trial: Leopard print blazer from Miss Selfridge

Leopard_print_blazerThere is a certain school of thought that says that any item of clothing covered in animal print is automatically a Crime of Fashion. The Fashion Police don’t necessarily subscribe to that school of thought. We love leopard print shoes, for instance. And we think a little bit of animal print can be great on something like a scarf, maybe. Yes, scarves are good.

Jackets, though? Well, when it comes to jackets, our love of leopard somehow seems to desert us, and instead of thinking “yes, that could work”, we find ourselves thinking “What. The hell. Is that?” instead. It’s just all too much for us. Too, too much.

What do you think? Are you a lover of leopard, or is it just another Crime of Fashion?

I think it’s fine so long as the rest of what you’re wearing is neutral and not too dressified up.

no, I like some animal print as trim…for instance, a leopard camisole underneath a black blazer of similar cut would be fierce, but this is too 70 year old in miami with leathery tan skin and too much make-up…it’s just out of fashion.

I like it. with suitable clothes to acompany it, of course.

I really think whether or not this qualifies as a crime of fashion depends entirely on the woman wearing it. Leathery, overmade 70 year old in Miami, terrible – 20 something with a neutral-colored flared skirt and a pair of suitable heels, could be cute.

I hate leopard print. HATE HATE HATE it! There is something really trashy about it. I would never wear it with anything, not even a trim or shoes or scarf as suggested.

It’s fine if you have the personality for it.

I was going to say EXACTLY the same thing as gokarm did. Seriously. Great minds!

I don’t know, I think the right girl could rock this with a kind of retro-glam look, maybe with a nice pencil skirt and some platform pumps. That person is not me though, I’m so “un-exotic” I look like an idiot in animal prints.

Totally agree with Am and Diana, I wouldn’t be caught dead in ANYTHING with ANY animal print really.

I like animal print, in small doses. Don’t like this particular item, but I can imagine a leopard print jacket that would look good. The cut would have to be 50’s style – think: a simple Audrey Hepburn-style dress and shoes, big round glasses (all black), and then a cute leopard print jacket with cropped sleeves and a single huge button.

I agree with you. Animal print shoes and scarves ARE fashion but a jacket. . .that’s a crime!!!

this reminds me of a girl I know…. a friend of a friend. one night we were out at a local bar, and she was wearing a similar blazer. PLUS a different colored leopard tank top PLUS leopard print hoop earring PLUS leopard bracelets PLUS leopard print sandals (all with brown pants). yeah…. so honestly, if someone wants to wear that blazer, with no other leopard print items, that would be fine by me!!!

I don’t mind it at all. As a matter of a fact, I actually really like it. It would have to be the only statement piece you wore (and it is quite a statement piece) but I think it’s cute. I would wear it.

Fashion crime? You want to talk about fashion crime? Rihanna’s tuxedo dress was a fashion crime. This blazer is NOT. You could wear this with tight black skinny jeans, a white cami, and some brown stilletos. You can always rock leopard print if you have a sense of style. Just don’t wear it all at one time, it’d look super trashy.
    I’d wear it! 🙂

i absolutely LOVE this look, it’s gorgeous and sassy, very Kardashian! with a cute LBD and some nude pump this would be a perfect look. Or roll up the sleeves and wear it with some black jeans and wedge booties; i love it!
