Leather trousers: Would you?

LeathertrousersOh what new madness is this?! While browsing the Topshop website today I noticed that they seem to have a helluva lot of pairs of leather/PVC trousers in stock. Or more than I’m comfortable with, anyway.

See, to me leather trousers are just one of those big old fashion no-nos: the kind of thing you associate with ageing rock stars and maybe Victoria Beckham from time to time. Their presence on the Topshop website, though, is a a little alarming. After all, leggings came back when we thought they’d been long since consigned to fashion hell. Is the same thing about to happen with leather trews?

So, tell me: do you wear leather trousers? Would you wear them? And also: don’t they make you sweat?

I wouldn’t do the trousers – too clingy – but I’d LOVE a nice soft-leather pleated skirt to wear for work. Anyone have any reasonably priced suggestions?

I don’t think I could personally pull them off BUT I used to work with a very stylish woman a while back and on casual Fridays she would wear chocolate-brown, straight- leg, very classic cut leather pants with off-white/eggshell-coloured tops and it looked fantastic. Prim and sophisitcated yet with just a hint of bad-girl. I loved that look.

Did you not see that episode of Friends where Ross gets too warm in his leather trousers, takes them off then can’t get them on again? Surely that’s enough to put anyone off, especially a girl when going to the toilet is involved.

I love leather pants! I used to own a pair but they don’t quite fit anymore. *sigh* Yeah, not quite as skinny as I was at 18. They are not an everyday item but I still want to get a new pair. I have more of a rock chick edge to my style and still love that black leather. It all depends on how you wear them. No PVC, though, it looks cheap. I’ve never had a problem with leather being too hot or sweaty but I have enough sense not to wear them in the summer. They are quite comfortable, especially since the leather warms and softens while you wear them.

Definitely yes and I do. You don’t sweat in them if they are lined and you don’t wear them in the summer!!! Tried on a pair of PVC pants once – that’s a no-no. Totally different feeling and they stick.

I absolutely would and do, because I can get away with it on skinny days and more importantly I dress it down HOWEVER I do think there are several ways they absolutely shouldn’t be worn. Larger sized people shouldn’t go there (no discrimination, just obvious since they can make tiny people look three times the size), and anyone wearing the very old fashioned uber-high waisted baggy topped skinny bottomed types should think again as well in my humble. A good cut if the main thing and some of the new low slung chunky topped designs are very fashionable and look great. The worst crime with leather is to team trousers with very tight revealing tops and bits of excess flesh hanging out all over the place like an 80’s biker chick, that ain’t sexy…
Just don’t go for PVC lookalikes, they’re revolting, unflattering, sweaty, and sticky. Leather is NOT the same, it’s much more breathable and comfortable when worn in.

I’m a straight, married guy and wear leather pants all the time. I love them. Fashion crime or not, leather pants rule and I ain’t gonna stop wearing them.
    Caveats:
I don’t wear them skin tight – that’s just dumb. A good comfy fit is what works.
I accessorize them well. A nice dress shirt or turtleneck, quality shoes, etc.
Most importantly: I buy ultra high quality leather from Ralph Lauren and Gucci – absolutely nothing like cheap biker clothes. Wicked expensive, but worth it. If more people saw what quality leather looks like, perhaps some of the negative stereotypes would be gone.
And lastly: leather pants are not hot to wear unless you wear them jogging. For casual or edgy-dressy wear, they are the pinnacle of comfort.

Oh, definitely, but only once I’ve lost some weight (Special K for the win!) it could just be the gutter-glam side of me speaking, but if you’re skinny enough, why not? Dressed up properly they look gorgeous!

I am a straight married man who wears leather pants all the time in the cooler season. REAL leather does NOT make you sweat, it’s the cheap pvc and fake stuff that does. I always wear my pants with a nice button down shirt or sweater and it looks great. I never wear them with a leather jacket though, too much leather on a guy isn’t cool. I am a very fit guy and think they fit me well.
