Lady Gaga at the 13th Annual 2009 ACE Awards: a timely warning against sequin knickers

Looks like someone has been trying to get our attention, folks:

Lady Gaga: looking fierce

Lady Gaga: looking fierce

Sorry, Gaga, we’ve been distracted.  Rest assured, though, you’re still our favourite fashion criminal. Also: loving the new “hands always in the same position” thing you’ve got going on here:

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Seriously, there were about 20 pictures of Lady Gaga at this event, and she was striking this same pose in all of them. You’ve got to admire dedication like that.

Lady Gaga wears knickers-as-pants so we don't have to

Even Gaga feels the cold, though: that’s presumably why she decided to take the unusual shirt-under-bra option. Genius!

The sad thing is, the part of this that disturbs me the most is the fact that she looks like she rolled around in chalk dust.

Yknow, I bet this lady is really boring and ugly under all this crap. Just a famous version of the “wacky” kids we knew in high school who tried to be as weird as possible to seem interesting.

as a former “wacky” kid…not all of us were trying “to be as weird as possible to seem interesting” to people we (well i anyway…can’t speak for all “wacky” kids) found seriously to be uninteresting sheeple…guess expressing oneself in non-conformist ways is deeply threatening to some folks…most likely folks whose life peaked in high school

Wow, there’s no need to be rude, Naomi. I’m sure Amber (who isn’t me, by the way) wasn’t speaking about you personally, so I’m not sure why you’ve chosen to take it that way. Given that you yourself have just made a huge generalisation about people on the Vivienne Westwood post (inferring that anyone who doesn’t share your exact opinion on a pair of shoes must obviously be a label whore, as if your opinion can be the only correct one) I find it a bit odd that you’re so offended by someone else’s generalisation. Bad day?

not a bad day at all…you could just have easily told Amber-who-isn’t-you not to be so rude in assuming anyone who likes something off the beaten path is “boring and ugly” underneath it all
also not so sure why you need to toss out my opinion on some plastic shoes made by a famous label as a comment on this unrelated issue…i try not to be rude in my comments…guess her post touched the same nerve in me that mine apparently touched in you
          truces all around i hope

Wow. Love her make-up, hate her outfit.
    It’s a shame.

I wonder if someone threw flour at her and she didn’t have time to change, so reckoned she’d get away with pretending to look like that on purpose. Still doesn’t explain the clawed hands thing though…

How did she manage to get her button-down shirt tucked into her granny panties? Haha!

Rose has a point, what IS all over her outfit? Perhaps she was baking cookies in this ensemble?

I think the outfit is quite spectacularly revolting.

But to me it doesn’t feel like she’s dressing to be admired for her sense of style. As TFP said, she’s dressing to get attention. To some degree I admire her individuality – it takes guts to wear some of the things she does .. but at the same time it also feels like she’s trying a little bit too hard, you know?

I think it’s time we all stop paying attention to Lady Gaga’s outlandish wardrobe. I completely agree that she commits some horrendous crimes of fashion, but the only reason she does it is to set herself apart from all those other artists cranking out garden-variety pop music. Sure, her music is fun in small doses, but it’s nothing special.

Sorry about the tangent, I’m well aware this is a fashion blog and not a music blog. I just had to get that off my chest. Carry on.

Speaking as the sort of person who wore a lot of tie-die in highschool (and to this day), I agree a little with amber-who-is-not-*The*-Amber (the definite article;) ). There are people who dress in unusual ways as political statements or because they genuinely like that style or the culture associated with it…and there are people who dress in unusual ways because they are insecure and feel like they need something to define their personalities. I *suspect* the above fashion criminal may be of the second category, given that people of the first usually manage to *say* something or at least look like they know how clothing is meant to work. Even the people who *do* wear their bras on the outside.

I’m just so used to gaga’s coocooness that this doesn’t shock me anymore.
what pisses me off is how people think she’s a fashion icon, I appreciate her daringness… but there’s a a fine line between a “Daring” outfit and one that’s just “Disgusting”

I think some people miss the point of Lady Gaga. Everything about her is quirky and eccentric. I don’t think she dress crazily only to get attention, but she does it because it is true to her personality. She isn’t just a singer, but she’s an entertainer, and clothing is another thing she entertains people with.
