Keira Knightley wears Alexis Mabille to the London premiere of The Duchess – what do you think?

Keira_knightley_the_duchess

We’re pleased to see Keira Knightley has managed to successfully fight the urge to wear dresses that reveal her breastbone on the red carpet. Well done, Keira! Her Alexis Mabille dress makes her look even more delicate and waif-like than usual, with that netting around the bust and hem, and was an interesting choice for Keira. We quite like – but don’t love – it (we think that hem looks a little cheap where the tulle attaches to it, although we know it’s anything but) but what’s with the shoes? Don’t get us wrong, they’re perfectly nice shoes in themselves, but with this dress? No. We’re not enjoying the current trend of clumpy shoes with delicate dresses at all, and these ones just don’t look right to us on Keira’s slender frame. What do you think, readers?

Everything just makes her look more flat chested and her legs look skinnier and more emaciated.
    Not good.

Ms. Knightley’s skinniness aside, I do not like the dress with the shoes, nor do I like the dress. I actually do like the tulle trim on the dress quite a lot, but I don’t like it paired with the fabric, color and cut of the dress.

I don’t like the trim at all – maybe if it was shorter at the hem. I was in a lot of amateur ballet productions as a kid, and they often used cheap netting on the underneath that itched like mad – so I’m probably projecting 😛
    It’s a pretty colour though.

I like the tulle trim, I just wish it was a bit shorter at both ends. And I think the tulle should stick out the bottom line a crinoline, not be connected to the actual hem – to me, the way it is connected looks like it’s from Forever 21 or something!

The shoes make her look like a clydsdale in this thing. Which is saying alot given how tiny she is.

I don’t know what to think of this dress actually…
On the one hand, I am very pleased that Keira is wearing something that doesn’t make her look emaciated, which is a definite step forward, and one to be encouraged !!
On the other hand, this dress was shown in the Alexis Mabille Autumn/Winter 2008 Runway show, and the netting trim, at the top and the bottom, was all in blue to match the dress, which was SO much better !!
Why didn’t Keira have it changed to black ?? The original version looked far more expensive and tasteful !!

I completely love this look. It looks like it was inspired by a hat from the 40’s. In the best way possible. I have been seeing it all day and wondering about it. Of course I should’ve known you would.

It’s a fantastic dress. The shoes are also marvelous, and I kind of like them together, but honestly, I don’t think the look is right for Kiera Knightley. Imagine the same ensemble on say, Scarlett Johansson, or America Fererra. Much better, right? The whole thing is just more suited to a curvier body type than hers. She’s getting lost in it.
But she did nail the color. That blue is doing wonders for her.

    my two cents…
the dress is pretty hot, but I think if you are going to go for tulle, go all out, many layers instead of just the one. and lose the shoes, they are clearly not a match with the dress, way too clunky. not suited for any red carpet in fact. final thought: the poor girl needs to eat a sandwich (or 50)!!!!!!

Honestly, I think the tulle around the top draws bad attention to her chest and shoulders. Seriously, I have never noticed this before, but since my eye is so drawn there thanks to this dress, I’ve just realised that her collarbone/shoulders look remarkably like those of a skinny man. It’s not so obvious in the closeup photo but I just don’t think the shape of the top of the dress and the tulle help to make her shoulders look feminine. =/

The ensemble looks pretty cheap and something like a high school prom dress. I would have liked to see it with a skinnier shoe and with less tulle on the bottom, but I like the shape of the dress and the color is gorgeous. She looks great, otherwise!

I Loooooove the dress, would like the shoes with something else. But overall this outfit does not fit Kiera Knightly’s body type. LOVE the dress!

I’m not a fan at all. the tulle is weird looking, especially sprouting from the top of the dress. The shape isn’t good for her. And the shoes are okay, but not great.
And what are the two weird bubbles on the front? Bows? Pockets? It’s just weird.

Would you stop with the eating the sandwich ideas already? She’s slender, get over it.

The dress is likely very costly but it looks cheap and poorly constructed. It would be better if the tulle was shorter. Nice color though.
The shoes, although cute, don’t work with this dress AT ALL.
Keira is beautiful but she could really use a new stylist.

I know she’s slim but I wish she would stop that slouchy, arm hanging, cheek sucking pose that she does. It only serves to make her look really frail and like she’s feeling weak!
Sorry I hate the dress. It’s cheap looking and unflattering.
