Kate Moss for Topshop Christmas Collection 2008 – what do you think?

Kate_moss_christmas

The latest Kate Moss for Topshop collection launched today. This is the Christmas 2008 collection, and, as with most of Kate’s collections for Topshop, there is good, there is bad, and there is just downright expensive.

In the "downright expensive" category we have a collection of "limited edition" pieces with prices around the £100 – £120 mark. In the "good" category, we’re placing the first of the two dresses above, which we love, and as for the rest… well, it’s up to you to decide. More pictures after the jump, or you can view the collection at the Topshop website. If there’s something you like, though, you better act fast – a lot of this stuff is already sold out online. Remember and come back and tell us what you think of it, though!

£30 for a stripy t-shirt! Kate Moss’ face on your chest? Eeek!

We’re kinda liking the tiger dress. We have no idea why.

Mmmm, I don’t like the collection. It looks cheap (even though it really isn’t)and like the clothes were second hand.

I’m really liking the £60 dress on the right at the top but I wouldn’t pay £60 for it. it looks quite cheap.

Hmm. Only like the dress top right, the rest, well, looks horribly unflattering and cheap. (Of course, if they showed them on models who knows–could just be the way they photographed but they all look dumpy). Also, it always bugs me to find Christmas collections that contain nary a warm item, not even long sleeves (except for horrible things that look an awful lot like grandma sweaters). Designers would do well to at least spend some time (like a year or so) living in a cooler climate so they can see what works and what really, really doesn’t.

    Just. Don’t. Get.
I think Kate Moss is one of those girls in high school who always looked fantastic but could somehow convince you that you’d look haute wearing a garbage bag with a belt and leg warmers and then as soon as you stepped outside you’d realize that really, that girl is a bitch.

I’d have to call this collection ugly, uglier, and ugliest. The only one I nominally like is the lower left one for £100. The £75 purple one might be cute if it weren’t in such a horrid color. I agree with those who say the collection overall looks cheap.

It’s not a great collection, neither were her previous ones though. But I don’t think it’s her fault.
As far as I know, she’s never really studied design, fashion or otherwise.(please correct me if I’m wrong) She has worn a lot of clothes, I will agree, but then does that make you a designer? If so, we can all have a go, with a few quick changes!
Anyone else think Topshop lost it a bit when it lost Jane Shepherdson?

Not a collection that appeals to me. It doesn’t look winter-y to me at all and the clothes do look cheap.
I don’t think Kate Moss designed these – at least, according to Wiki, this is the way of things:
“On May 1, 2007 a collection of clothes, purported to be designed by Moss exclusively for the Topshop chain, were launched across the UK in the chain’s 225 stores. These and all future “Kate Moss” designs are in fact creations by in-house Arcadia designers all signed to confidentiality agreements.”

Yeah I have to agree. I’ve never really been a fan of Miss Moss’ collections, feeling that they are always cheap looking and hugely over-expensive! The hype that Topshop generate around her launches really are the only reason they sell out, however it really shows the power she has! If her name wasn’t put to these pieces I don’t feel that they would sell out in an hour like the tiger dress or even sell that well! The tiger dress beautiful and all as it is is actually see through (check out pics’ of Kate wearing it at Stella McCartneys s/s 09 show)! And really if her name wasn’t on it would you really pay £100 for this piece or be aup at 6 am to buy it?? Having said all this I have to admit that yes I have fallen victim to the Topshop hype mixer and I was on my computer at 7am yesterday morning to buy the black and silver triangle dress, which also sold out yesterday!! 😀

Kate Moss for Topshop Spring 08 Preview

Katemossfortophsop

It’s not a lot to go on, but these five pieces are all we’re going to get of Kate Moss’s next collection for Topshop – well, until Tuesday, which is when it actually launches, of course. Apparently we can expect a return to the boho look, with Kate channeling the "bohemian" traveler with pieces referencing "Ibiza, Miami, India and beyond." Up above we can see there’ll be a handkerchief hem dress, leather jacket, and – gasp! – bootcut jeans rather than the ubiquitous skinnies. (Yes, we know Kate’s done bootcut before, but we’re still hoping for some skinnies anyway.)

Are you hotly anticipating this launch, or do Kate’s forays into fashion design just leave you cold?

I would just like to know why a pair of flare leg jeans is considered “design”. Other than that, I do dig her style, Topshop is tops.
