Jimmy Choo for Ugg Australia

Brace yourselves, readers: Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon has announced that her brand is collaborate with Ugg Australia on a limited edition of Ugg boots. Or Ugg-Choos as we suppose we’ll have to call them.

No, we’re not making this up. Actually, it’s not a total departure for Jimmy Choo: the brand collaborated with Hunter boots last year, as well as creating their line for H&M, but Ugg boots are such a “love or loathe” (or in some cases, “loathe or loathe even more”) style that we’re sure this news will raise a few eyebrows.

The boots will retail for between £495 and £695, and will be available from October this year. What will the love child of Ugg and Jimmy Choo look like, though? We can’t wait to find out…

Wow….. I don’t think anybody saw that one coming! Just how those two can (or should?!) ever be combined is beyond my imagination. Sassy, high heeled Jimmy Choos and clunky, furry, sheepskinned UGGs… What will the outcome be? UGGs with heels? Furry, strappy sandals? That sure is one day this year I’m not looking forward to! 🙂

If you read Revelations really carefully I think this is mentioned as one of the signs of the apocalypse…

I reckon it’s going to be vaguely mukluk style boots with thin straps / ties. Doubt it if could be any worse than the “classic” light brown Ugg…

Correct me if I’m wrong; is it not consumers that dictate fashion trends – hence the term trend? Reports are that Ugg sold 5 million pairs of ONE STYLE of their boots in the US in 2009. Even if that is a half-truth, 2.5 million units is enough to make even the most self-absorbed stylist refrain from speaking on behalf of the masses – though many have. Jimmy will be very successful in this initiative as the brand is simply giving consumers what they want: have a chat with Trump about the success of this philosophy.

The ‘fashion over comfort’ era may not be coming to an end just yet, but it’s very apparent who’s afraid of this happening. Consumers might buy more of that which they feel comfortable in and less of that which is a dictated trend. This certainly is a shining example of consumers voting with their feet.

Maybe our fashion experts should stop telling us what to like and instead give us advice on how to wear what we do like. What makes a good sheepskin boot? Are Ugg the best at making this? I’m sure at least 2.5 million people would love answers to questions such as these.
