Jean-Paul Gaultier jumps aboard the “Mullet Skirt” bandwagon

It’s a mini skirt! But it’s also a maxi skirt! For those days when you just can’t make up your mind!

Of course, it’s ALSO a “mullet skirt”. And a crime of fashion. (Which begs the question: what no peep toe boots?)

If neither of those points bother you, though, it’s £558 and you can buy it at Louisa Via Roma. What do you think?

Worn with a shirt that looks like it’s actually (*shudder*) a backwards thong. Good LORD.

The only really bad thing here is the price. Come on, more than 600 Euros for a skirt you can get in any Goth store. I’ve seen this style for a long time now, but so far only in the Dark Wave/Gothic Scene. Just add fishnet tights to the above and change the boots for real Doc Martens.

Yeah it’s nothing new. There’s an episode of Friends in the earlier seasons where Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) wears a skirt like this and every time I see that episode the skirt stands out but not in a good way. More in a “erm.. what is that?” kind of way. But I agree with Moni’s comment about how this style has been around for a long time and is already popular in the alternative scene. An example is one by Skingraft Designs (http://store.corsetmaking.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/skingraft%20ruffleskirt.jpg) which an alternative music artist Amanda Palmer is often seen wearing teamed with knee high lace up alternative boots, stockings/tights/above the knee socks, a corset and a military jacket (http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/29/l_ea45d1e10473433a9eba1d766ae057ff.jpg – picture by Kyle Cassidy), and I think it works for her. Personally, I think this type of skirt can suit certain people depending on their style but it’s not for all.

The skirts in those links look much better than the one here.

I feel like thats some sort of hideous costume for a low-budget, poorly produced cult vampire/female assassin movie. But that may just be me.

If you turned it a bit, you could dress up as an anime/comic book/video game character.

Nope, those boots are ugly enough. Who styles a sinewy, bodyskimming skirt with those? Gack.

Of course, the skirt is more of a crime.

Looks like Jean-Paul ran out of material. The ruffly Victorian dance-hall fetish wear skirts at least look like they were made that way on purpose. This appears to be an accident.
