Is the skinny jeans trend finally over?

Skinnyjenas

So, Liz Jones, fashion writer for The Daily Mail, has decreed today that skinny jeans are officially "over". I beg to differ. It’s a prediction that will no doubt come back to bite me firmly on the bum this time next year, when everyone’s back in bootcuts, but I’m going to stick my neck out here and say I think skinny jeans are here to stay. They may not always be as popular as they have been over the past couple of years, but I think they’ve moved into "fashion classic" territory, and while they’re definitely not for everyone, for those who love them, the skinny jean will always be around.

I hope so, anyway, and I say this is as someone who was firmly against this trend back when it started. I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to squeeze myself into a pair of skinnies, and I couldn’t really see why anyone would. Oh, how things change. Last weekend I slipped on an old pair of bootcuts – and hated them. After weeks of wearing skinnies, my trusty old Earls looked old fashioned and not particularly flattering. It was then that I knew I’d become a skinny jeans fan, and there would be no going back.

That’s not to say I’ll never wear bootcuts again, or that it’s going to be all-skinny, all the time, here at Fashion Police towers. Different styles of jeans work with different looks, and bootcuts will always have a place in my heart – as will those straight-cuts I was getting all worked up about last month. No, I don’t want to see wider legged jeans die out altogether – but I would like to keep on wearing my skinnies for as long as I can still buy them. Choice  is always a good thing, no?

So, what do you think? Are skinny jeans well and truly dead, as The Daily Mail seems to think, or will you be keeping on wearing them with pride?

I think they’ll go through the process that, say, short or long hemlines have gone through – emphasized as the ‘in’ thing for a time, then regarded as just one of several options available to people based on suitability to figure/occasion/individual taste. I doubt they’ll be the only jeans cut available full stop, as peoples’ tastes have rendered diversity of styles a must and relegated monolithic fashion (i.e. midis and only midis, for example) a thing of the past.

the “trend” for skinny jeans is rediculous. and i hope it ends. its causing to much stress on body type. its stupid. i think that they should still be sold for the people that want to buy them simply because they like them, and not because its the style. but i hope that in a higher sense the trend has died out. they only look good on stick figures anyway.

i totally disagree with the comment above me. skinny jeans are not just for stick figures, skinny jeans are for people of all body types. it all depends on finding the right PAIR of skinnies, just like you would with any other type of jeans. Not all bootcuts look good, or all flares, etc… it all depends and finding the right pair that suits YOU. i’m eighteen years old and have ENORMOUS hips for a girl my size. how do i put this, i’m…pear shaped. however, with a little shopping around, i’ve managed to find three amazing pairs of skinnies in the mall near my house, and i get compliments on them all the time. sorry for the long comment, but basically what i’m trying to say is that SKINNY JEANS, i believe, ARE HERE TO STAY.

I love my skinnies! I used to wear only bootcuts and now, they’re just blah.
I hope they stay a classic in the jeans section of stores everywhere…
&& If you buy a pair that fits you right, they’re comfortable as hell.
& to the girl above me, I have pretty large hips too.. but skinny jeans with a good fit can make you look taller and leaner, especially with a balancd outfit. You can have large hipe and not be plus sized also.
However, plus sized people should not probably not wear skinny jeans. (my mom is like 280 so don’t bitch at me for being prejudiced or anything)

Skinny jeans will only be here to stay duh, if people continue to buy and wear them. I’m 38 and witnessed them disappear from the face of the earth after the 80’s. It could happen again. I’ve noticed a lot of younger people wearing them but not so many older chicks. I’m petite so they are perfect to me; I have the figure for them, for now anyway. I will never wear wide legs or boot cut, so am content to be “out of style” if that’s the way the wind blows.

i love skinny jeans i like the way they look on other ppl. i eespecailly love the rocker look. but im pear shapped, so it is extremly hard to find the right ones that dont excentuate my thighs. but i think skinny jeans will basically always be here, in style. they go great with any top and thank you: Casiona | Jun 25, 2007 8:53:30 PM . what you said really hit me and im so ready to finally get some knowing that other pear shapped ppl are buying them too.
