Handbag of the Week: Harveys Seatbelt Bag

We have a feeling this handbag will be a little controversial, because this bag? Is made out from old seatbelts. Yes, seatbelts. The kind you find in your car. We probably wouldn’t have guessed that was the case: it’s definitely much nicer than most recycled fashion items, and we bet it’s very hard wearing, too.

Would you want to carry around a bag made out of seatbelts, though? If you would, these come in a range of colours and styles: this one is $97.90 from Zappos.

It looks really cool. I can’t imagine it’s very nice to touch though.

I LOVE touching seatbelts! I wonder how they dye them that colour though.

That would be a great bag, especially since I don’t wear leather. I’d totally consider buying it.

I think it’s neat. I’d much rather have a purse made from interesting material than a designer name brand.

i don’t know if this is from the original company, but i LOVE seatbeltbags (seatbeltbags.com, you should check it out. they are a little pricey but are made so well and are completely worth it)
they are sturdy and smooth (nice to the touch) and SO beautiful! i have a paint by numbers tote and it is absolutely wonderful.

It’s more elegant, but not as cool as Freitag bags: they’re made from old tarpaulin, tyres AND seatbelts…

Really? These have been around for a long time, and I guess you could dress them up but when these were popular, I only saw soccer mom types wearing them.

This is not only a reeaally nice bag, but it is eco-friendly too! And to be honest, I wouldn’t have guessed it was made from seatbelts. That’s a starter for ten if I ever saw one…

    I like it.
In PR season 5 had a challenge to design clothes wearing parts of a car, with a great success.

Like Lizi says I don’t think this is the original company but a nice shade of red. My daughter has a seatbelt bag called Maggie Bags. It is a very pretty design and she carries it everywhere. She only buys recycled items.
