Celebrity Style on Trial: Gwyneth Paltrow’s high heels and short skirts

Gwyneth_paltrow

It’s been quite the week for Gwyneth Paltrow: a week in which both her hems and her heels have been higher with every passing day. Our guess is that she woke up one morning and thought, "You know what? I’m HOT. I’m going to start dressing like it." Now, the "short skirt and high heels" rule is one which is drummed into many a young girl at an early age, and basically states that the height of your hem should be inversely proportional to the hight of your heel, so the higher the heel, the longer the skirt. Simple.

Gwyneth here is in clear contravention of that rule, but somehow we can’t bring ourselves to call her on it, because here’s the thing: she is hot. And we actually think she’s making this look work for her, partly by having legs to die for, but partly by dint of the "Yes, I’m wearing high heels and a short skirt. SO?" attitude with which she wears it.

We’re not seeing we’d want to see everyone follow Gwyneth’s example, here, but we do think she looks like she’s really enjoying her shoes right now, and well, who can blame her?

What do you think? Is Gwyn a fashion criminal or is she looking too cool for (fashion) school?

On her and on the red carpet it looks good. But if I saw a regular gal walking down the street dressed like that (which I did last week incidentally) I would immediately think ”Pro-fessional”?

I like the first outfit better than the second simply because the long sleeved tuxedo jacket helps to balance out the fact that she’s showing so much leg, and I think the shoes work with it. But yeah, if I had legs like that, I’d probably be flaunting them every chance I got, too.

Hm… I’m not a fan of super short skirts, regardless of heel length. And why is she wearing so much black? Boring.

i guess, covering up with the jacket makes it a lot more decent…

I donĀ“t like short skirts that much but I do think she looks great on the first picture.

It is disproportionate and unbalanced, and in that light, off putting. As far as “hot?” Relative to the eye of the beholder.

I like the left outfit, but it’s too short. The dress on the right is just tacky.

Some people suggested instead that it works opposite: the longer the skirt is, and the lower the heels are, because as the big skirt can hide legs very well, it’s not necessary to modify the curves of legs by high heels. And the skirts like pencil skirt or the short skirts which highlight the curves of legs, still have a demand of your shape of legs, so you might want to enhance it with your heels.
Though tbh I suspect that such rules are only indicative and maybe the opposite rule is to stay on the safer side, or maybe so that it’s more exciting to break them.
