[Guest Post] Swimwear Section: Roxy Bermuda Shorts Set

[A guest post by Sian Meades…]

I did a double take when I first saw this Roxy bikini in the holiday section over at Oli. The bikini top is fine. I don’t have an issue with that. But it’s the shorts that I really don’t understand. Why would you want shorts? Not just shorts, I’m fine with little hotpants as bikini bottoms. But Bermuda shorts? I wouldn’t wear boy underwear, I’m not about to start wearing boy shorts on the beach, even if they’re are pink. It just looks wrong. I don’t understand. Is everyone going to suddenly start wearing shorts like this? Would you wear these?

as a surfer, i find that me and quite a lot of my friends wear these around town and on the beach. we are all teenagers though, i think if you are over 18 they would look stupid.

If you’re going to do any surfing or water sports you’d need them. Arse wedge is pretty likely and ain’t a good look when you’re trying to do something other than get a tan.

There’s nothing wrong with either the top or the shorts, but I agree that in combination they look awkward. Almost as if they had used so much fabric for the shorts that there was nothing left for the top…
This top with hotpants or the shorts combined with a tankini top would be fine with me.

Not everyone has a perfect butt and smooth, pretty thighs. I, for an example, don’t. I have cellulite and stretch marks (which really sucks, because I’m only 15). And I seriously consider buying myself something similiar to these, just 1. not pink 2. different bra type. Maybe I could finally go to the beach.

seems a little mismatched to me
if you are body concious enough to want shorts instead of bikini bottoms methinx you maybe wouldnt want to wear such a wee bikini top with them
but to each her own 🙂

I agree that the shorts are the most flattering option for the legs! Although if like me you’d rather cover your thighs you’d probably like to cover your tummy too! However they are fashionable in ‘surfer’ locations and are ideal for watersports or going to a waterpark (nobody wants to pull thier bikini bottoms into place all day long)….I like them!

Yeah, this is actually somehting I would wear to the beach. I’m not fat, but I don’t feel like parading my pooch and bum around the beach. I mean, the shorts could be a little shorter, but this is fine really.

Looks fine. Could do with some contrast, but as a style, I don’t mind it. I find a little modesty refreshing, especially for younger women like myself. I have no issues with my body, I’m just not comfortable showing it off.

My thighs are covered with scars so I do have to wear longer swim shorts if I want to avoid people asking awkward questions. But I do agree that they look odd worn with such a skimpy bikini top.

This is pretty much the unofficial uniform (with some colour changes) of every surfer girl in Australia. Everyone I know owns at least one pair of board shorts (or boardies, if you want to use the local lingo)… guess it’s just an Aussie thing 😀

I wear boardshorts all the time. I don’t see what the problem is. Yes, this is a little matchy matchy, but in general you can’t beat the comfort of them.

I see absolutely nothing wrong. The main thing that’s put me off buying swimwear/going swimming in the last few years is the lack of shorts available for this purpose. I don’t want to show off my my backside and thighs, and you don’t want to see them either. This is a perfectly decent solution.

Although, I’m mostly pretty annoyed at the overall tone of this post. “But they look like BOOOOY clothes and girls can’t possibly wear that! Even if they’re made specifically for girls! What is the world coming to?! Ewww! I don’t like them, so surely no one else could see any value in wearing them!”. Grow up! Surely society is a little over the rigid gender-division of clothing by now.

I actually like those shorts, but I’d wear it with a plain black bikini top.
Or I’d wear the bikini top with a plain bottom. Either way, it’s cute!
