      Top 10 | Valentine’s Day Lingerie Sets

Top Ten Valentine’s Day Lingerie Sets We figured we should probably talk about Valentine’s Day. It’s just… we don’t really want to. Seriously: unless this is your first time on the internet (In which case, welcome, and don’t look any further – this is the only site you’ll ever need…), we’re guessing you’ve probably had your fill of gift guides, flowers, and various red and/or pink things by now. We also have a sneaking suspicious that most of you probably don’t really care all that much – or, at least, not the extent that you’ve been anxiously counting down the days since Christmas, as all of the press releases we’ve been receiving lately would have us believe. (You haven’t, have…

      River Island Spring/Summer 2014 preview

River Island Spring/Summer 2014 Continuing our spring forward (sorry) to SS 2014 fashion, here’s a quick look at some of the items you can expect to see from River Island next season. RI impressed us this winter, with some fantastic skirts, knits and winter coats. This summer collection is a bit of a mixed bag: there are some migraine-inducing patterns in the form of garishly printed pants and tops, and we’re dismayed to see THAT Zara skort reborn at River Island. (To be fair, ever since Zara unleashed that skort upon us, lots of other brands have copied it, so River Island aren’t the only guilty party in this respect…) On the other hand, there are some pretty skirts and…

Marks & Spencer Spring 2014 Lookbook

All items: M&S After the success of their Winter 2013 collection – including THAT pink coat – we thought we’d take a quick look at the Marks & Spencer Spring 2014 Lookbook, to see if they’ll be able to live up to last season’s promise. And do they? Well, we don’t see any stand out, OMGMUSTHAVE items in this selection, although, once again, the styling is certainly more fashion-forward than we’d come to expect from M&S: there are even a few sheer stripe skirts and leather t-shirts in there, as the brand continues to attempt to shrug off the frumpy image it once had, and convince us all that it truly is a force to be reckoned with. Have they…

      The Ugliest Tops of 2013

So far our 2013 retrospective has taken us through the dresses, trousers and shoes sections of the Fashion Police jail. That leaves just one clothing item for us to take a look back: the tops! From the “offensive/not offensive” debate surrounding American Apparel’s ‘Period Power’ t-shirt, to the unusually high number of tops which appeared to give the wearer’s nipples a set of eyes, 2013 was another bad year in the world of the top. Would you wear any of these tops? Take a look at the gallery and tell us what you think! Gallery: The Ugliest Tops of 2013

      The Ugliest Shoes of 2013

Happy new year, Fashion Force! We trust you all had an awesome and stylish start to the year, and are ready to get on with the important business of fighting all of the fashion crimes we’re sure to encounter in 2014. Before we get on to that, though, we still have to finish our 2013 Crime Retrospective, and today we’re looking at the wonderful – and sometimes not-so-wonderful- world of shoes. Now, we generally try to leave all things footwear-related to our sister site, ShoeperWoman, but we did step in to make a few footwear-related arrests last year, and you’ll find them rounded up in the gallery below. Are these the ugliest shoes of 2013? Take a look and find…

      The Ugliest Trousers of 2013

Happy Friday, everyone! We hope you had a good Christmas if you were celebrating, and that you’re enjoying the holiday season. Our officers are currently responding to fashion emergencies only, so today we’re continuing our look back at the fashion crimes of 2013, with a roundup of some truly terrible trousers. Trousers account for a large section of the Fashion Police jail, and rather than attempting to sort them into their various categories, we’ve decided simply to lump them all together: ugly pants, united in crimes. Trousers, leggings, shorts, jumpsuits – if it has two legs, basically, and we arrested it in the past year, you’ll find it here. Oh, except for jeans. Jeans have their own section of the…

      The Worst Denim of 2013

Good morning Fashion Police officers! With the Christmas holiday fast approaching, we expect those of you with some time-off booked for this week will be feeling pretty de-mob happy by now: we know we are! Rather than get to work hunting down brand new crimes of fashion, then, we figured we’d leave that until next year, and continue our look back through the 2013 archives instead. Today, it’s the turn of our old friend – and occasional foe – denim. The one fabric we should be able to depend on when we don’t know what else to wear, denim can be a very, very good thing indeed. However, it can also be very, very bad, and those are the times…

      The Ugliest Dresses of 2013

Each year, as December comes to a close, The Fashion Police like to take a look back through the case files, and round up some of the worst fashion crimes of the year just gone. This year, we’re starting off with a look at the dress section of our jailhouse, so sit back, relax (if you can), and take a look at our gallery of the ugliest dresses of 2013! (Note: These products go right back to the start of the year, and many – if not most – are now out of stock.  We’re pretty sure you’ll be able to live with this knowledge, but just in case you can’t, we’ve indicated where each dress came from on the…

      Primark Spring/Summer 2014 Preview

It’s not even Christmas yet, but we’re already looking forward to spring: even more so, now that we’ve seen the Primark SS2014 preview. There is gingham. There are full skirts. There’s… a really odd-looking see-through dress which the Empress will just LOVE, seriously. OK, so we’re not looking forward to that last one, or to some of the orthopaedic-looking sandals that are also part of this collection. We always think the Primark preview offers an interesting insight into what kind of summer trends the high street brands will be picking up on next year, and what people will ACTUALLY be wearing. On that subject, we’re really happy to see there are no adult onesies included in the press materials for…

      riri

Rihanna’s latest collection for River Island is… interesting

Rihanna’s latest collection for River Island has been getting lots of plaudits on Twitter this week, so we decided we’d better take a look and see what all the fuss was about. Well, first of all we’re going to be generous and assume it ISN’T about either of these: Adult onesies. GOD. What do we have to to make this ridiculous trend (And yes, we’re calling it a “trend”: they may technically be lounge/sleepwear, but when they’re included in a celebrity fashion collection and most major brands stock them, that’s a trend, people. And it doesn’t seem to want to die.) We’ve already pointed out that they make adults look like toddlers. That if someone knocked on the door while you…

      Next Autumn/Winter 2013 preview

Next Autumn Winter 2013 We feel like we should have called this post “Mad for Plaid” or something similarly cheesy: that IS what almost all of these photos have in common, after all. Next aren’t the only brand to be embracing plaid for Winter 2013: in fact, most of the brands we’ve previewed so far have included the print in some form or another, and that’s not surprising – it’s yet another one of those so-called “trends” that are actually not trends at all, because they crop up at the same time every year. While Next aren’t the only ones touting plaid as an important part of the upcoming season, however, they do seem particularly enthusiastic about it, putting it…

Marks & Spencer Autumn Winter 2013

We’re not going to lie to you: the second we finished uploading these photos, we headed straight over to the Marks & Spencer website to see if any of this stuff was available yet. Specifically, we were looking for the coats. Oh, those coats! At a time when most high street outerwear collections have been uninspiring to say the least, we think M&S have really pulled through, with a selection of luxe-look, vintage-inspired styles which are just packet full of good, old-fashioned glamour. And ARE they available yet? Well, some of them are. Certain items, however, such as the powder blue coat (which is such a refreshing change from the usual dull winter colours) is already starting to sell out in…

      Primark Autumn Winter 2013 Preview

Primark Autumn Winter 2013 OK: it’s August. We’re still enjoying the summer, but as reluctant as we are to even think about it, Autumn will soon be drawing in, which means it’s time for us to start taking a look at the Autumn/Winter collections and passing judgement upon them. As always, we’re kicking off with a look at the new season looks from Primark, who are already selling some of these items (although not all of them) in stores. This is, needless to say, a very small selection of what the brand will have to offer (Primark is to fast fashion what McDonald’s is to fast food, after all, and their selections are changing constantly), but it gives you a…

Wanted Wednesday | One-piece swimsuits from Topshop

We’ve talked a lot about swimwear, and one-pieces in particular, lately, but the cute styles just keep on coming, and there’s still plenty of summertime left to wear them in: or we hope so, anyway. This season, we’ve been particularly impressed with Topshop’s offerings in the beachwear department. While many swimwear brands take the retro route when it comes to one-pieces (And hey, no complaints from us there!), they’ve managed to keep their collection a little more contemporary, using interesting prints and streamlined shapes to create suits which are flattering and forgiving to the figure, while still looking very fresh and “young”. Topshop also have a great selection of bikinis on the site at the moment, so if that’s more…

Beautiful Bikinis | Swimwear Roundup Part 2

Earlier this week we took a look at some of our favourite one-piece swimsuits, so today we’re redressing the balance by focusing on some beautiful bikinis. Although bikinis can be a little daunting if you’re not totally comfortable about bearing all on the beach, they remain a summer classic, and luckily there are enough different shapes and styles to suit just about everyone. Here are some bikinis we’re currently loving the look of… Gallery: Beautiful bikinis

Wonderful one pieces | swimwear roundup

One pieces from M&S and House of Fraser One pieces used to be considered the frumpy older sisters of the sexier, more stylish bikini, but these days one pieces have come into their own, and are once again starting to be seen as a glamorous alternative to the bikini, rather than the last-ditch option for those who aren’t quite brave enough to bare all. Far from being “frumpy”, one pieces can be hugely flattering on just about any figure. The right one piece will hold you in, create curves even if you don’t have any, and allow you to actually go for a swim without worrying about something falling out of your bikini. Oh, and you won’t have to worry…

      Five Fabulous Floral Prints

Love it or hate it, you just can’t escape it at this time of year: yes, we’re talking about floral print, THE ubiquitous summer print. Of course, there’s absolutely nothing stopping you wearing florals during the rest of the year too, if you wish, but the Spring/Summer season is the time when flowers are applied to everything: dresses, shoes, skirts, tops… if you can name it, it’s probably had a floral print applied to it at some point. For those who love them, florals epitomise everything that’s good about summer. Not only are they seasonally-appropriate, they’re also fresh, fun and feminine, and come in so many different colours and patterns that it’s usually easy enough to find something that’s to…

Trends on Trial: Comic print clothes

Comic books: one the sole preserve of nerds (By which we mean REAL nerds, not people who CALL themselves “nerds” because they think  it makes them cooler than they actually are…), now the very height of fashion: Well, OK, maybe “the height of fashion is a bit of an exaggeration. This isn’t exactly a high-fashion look by anyone’s standards, but our officers have noticed an increase in the number of comic-print clothes available from mass market retailers recently. The items shown in the gallery below are all available to buy now, and they cover everything from jewellery and other accessories to trousers, dresses and even underwear. Oh, and it doesn’t matter who your favourite comic book hero is, either – Superman,…

      prom-dresses

Short prom dresses from the UK high street

Prom season is almost upon us, but of course, you don’t need an actual prom to attend to wear a prom-style dress. Recently our style sleuths have noticed more than the usual number of prom dresses on the UK high street: the full skirts and fitted bodices make them flattering on a variety of different body shapes, and they’re as perfect for weddings, parties and other special occasions as they are for proms. When it comes to dresses that you won’t be wearing every day, we like to save some cash when we can, so here’s a quick roundup of some low-price prom dresses: you just need to supply the event…

      Trend Trial: Dungarees

DUNGAREES: the word alone is enough to strike fear into a Fashion Police’ officer’s beating heart. We’ve made no secret of our dislike of the bib overall – or “dungas” as Vogue likes to call them. To us, they’re a really easy way to look like an overgrown toddler, or alternatively, like a farm boy, and while we have nothing against either toddlers or farm boys, we’d rather leave that particular look to them, thanks very much. With dungarees – sorry, “dungas” – being touted as one of the big fashion trends of the year, however, and the stores we love slowly starting to fill up with denim overalls, we figured it was time to re-visit that opinion, and ask…

Top Ten: bird print pieces on the high street

Oriental birdcage top, £30, Oasis Bird print: like florals, it comes around every spring. Also like florals, it’s fresh, feminine, and a pretty obvious choice for things like sundresses and skirts. (It’s probably worth noting here that many bird prints actually contain florals as part of the design, hence the similarities). This is also a rather more whimsical, quirky kind of print than its floral sister, though, so if you like to be able to use those particular words to describe what you’re wearing, it might just be for you. We’ve tracked down ten bird print pieces, all available now on the UK high street. These range from cute tops and simple scarves to bird print dresses and skirts: take…

      H&M Conscious Collection

      GALLERY: H&M Conscious Collection Partywear

Instead of our usual Dress of the Day column, today we thought we’d bring you a whole lot of dresses of the day. Plus some trousers, shoes, bags and accessories of the day, too. These are all part of the new H&M Conscious Collection, and we have to say, we’re pretty darn impressed. Sure, there are a few pieces of coal amongst the diamonds, but we think the good stuff more than makes up for the bad, and for the first time in a long time, we’re really excited about a new high street collection. Imagine that! As you probably know, the H&M Conscious Collection is H&M’s attempt to rid themselves of their “fast fashion” image (to some extent, anyway),…

Fashion Police at the Oscars 2013: red carpet roundup

We fear the age of celebrity stylists has made the Oscars boring. Gone are the days of Bjork in a swan dress or Celine Dion in a back-to-front tuxedo: these are the days of (mostly) immaculate hair and makeup, and very few risks. You could say that was a good thing, of course. The Fashion Police had to make very few arrests at the Oscars 2013, which technically means that most people were “well dressed”. It does make it all a bit dull, though, doesn’t it? Fashion Police at the Oscars 2013: red carpet roundup You’ll find the full gallery from the Oscars 2013 red carpet at the bottom of this post. Before you get to it, though, some very…

Fashion Police at the 21st Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party

For everyone who doesn’t get invited to the Academy Awards, there is the Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party. And for everyone who thought the Oscars 2013 red carpet was just a tad boring, there is Paz Vega: Paz Vega at the  Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party Seriously, the shoes are worthy of an entire post on their own, aren’t they? Hell, the RUFFLES are worthy of their own post. WHY wasn’t Paz Vega at the Oscars? If everyone had dressed like this, we might have needed a little less coffee… Meanwhile, for everyone who thought the Oscars were just a little too CLASSY, here are Heidi Klum’s breasts: Heidi Klum at the  Annual Elton…

Little Mix on the red carpet at the Brit Awards 2013

Fashion Police at the Brit Awards 2013

Last night, celebrities rolled up to the O2 Arena in London for the Brit Awards 2013. The Brits are traditionally one of the awards ceremonies at which The Fashion Police make most arrests. For reasons we don’t quite understand, while the other awards shows tend to bring out the best in the celebrities who walk their red carpets (Or MOST of them, anyway…), the Brits… doesn’t. Was this year better or worse than usual in the style stakes? Let’s take a look and see… Little Mix at the Brit Awards 2013 The Brit Awards 2013: Arrivals… The photo above more or less sums up this year’s Brits fashion for us. This is Little Mix: a band formed for The X-Factor,…

      ASOS Spring 2013

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: ASOS Spring 2013

The Good: ASOS Spring 2013 dresses LOVE the dresses. Or we would if they were just a little bit longer, anyway. OK, quite a bit longer: the one on the left isn’t passing the Fingertip Test on this model, and we have no idea how she’d be able to move freely in it without fear of flashing everyone. We’re willing to concede that the rest of the world tends to like hemlines a lot shorter than we’d wear personally, though, so that aside, top marks to ASOS for excellent work on the summer dress front. We particularly like the print on the one of the left: yes, it reminds us of a vase, but it would be perfect on a…

      Elle Style Awards

Fashion Police at the Elle Style Awards 2013

Elle Style Awards 2013 After the snoozefest that was the 2013 BAFTA Awards, we had high hopes for the Elle Style Awards 2013, and luckily we weren’t disappointed. Being a Style Awards, you’d naturally expect the celebrity suspects in attendance to be a little more, well, stylish than those at other awards ceremonies, who, to be fair, are normally actors and musicians, who may or may not have any interest in style. Actually, though, this isn’t always the case, and sometimes we find style awards to be even more chock-full of fashion criminals than any other red carpet event. Strange, but true. Happily, however, the officers in attendance at the Elle Style Awards found themselves handing out more Gold Stars…

      2013 BAFTA Awards

Fashion Police at the 2013 BAFTA Awards: red carpet

2013 BAFTA Awards YAWN. Well, it wasn’t the most exciting red carpet we’ve ever seen, was it? For the 2013 BAFTA Awards in London last night, most people seemed to be obeying some kind of unspoken “black or white” rule (or at least, the ones our agency decided to photograph were, anyway. Marion Cotillard, for instance, looked amazing in bright yellow, but, of course, we didn’t get a photo of her…). Perhaps the monochrome trend is more powerful than we knew? What this meant, of course, was that anyone who dared to wear a brighter colour instantly stood out from the crowd. Step forward, Jessica Chastain, in brilliant blue: Great colour for her hair and skin tone, and kudos to…
