Friday Fun: Topshop Unique Kissometer mini dress

Kissometer-mini-dressOh. A kissometer dress. That's either "fun" or it's the kind of thing you'd buy for £5 at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

We're going to let you be the judge of that one, readers, but as you judge it, know that it has already sold out on the Topshop website, selling for £45, and appeared in the fashion pages of this month's UK Cosmopolitan, worn by Fearne Cotton, who seemed to be finding it great fun.

If you want it, you're going to have to head to the store to find it, because as we say, it's sold out online.

Do you want it, though? Is it fun, or is it just plain tacky?

Oh look! A dress that screams: I just can’t get enough attention from men!!!!

Call me crazy but I love it [and I’m 47 years old!] Can see it with strappy sandals in the summer or with black tights and a shrug in cooler weather. I’m heading over to London in early April and may look for this one!

It’s adorable. If you don’t have a sense of humor about fashion, it’s tacky, yeh. I’m not saying anyone’s gonna mistake it for a Michael Kors but come on, it’s truly ironic, taps into an unrealized memory for a LOT of people, and it’s flirty in a non-threatening kinda way. And it looks hella comfy.

Strictly Blackpool. And I can’t help thinking there’s some sort message in the positioning of the bowl of the thermometer, or indeed the reading being displayed (unless it’s supplied with a red pen of course).

Gokarm, that seems to imply that anyone who doesn’t like it must have no sense of humour, though, which doesn’t seem very fair. Room for people to have different taste in clothes without being branded humourless, surely?
I’ve always tried to resist saying things like, “If you like this then you must be… ” or “If you don’t like this then it means you’re…” because I just don’t think those kinds of generalisations work. I think sometimes people can just have different taste 🙂

I’m a fan of whimsical dressing, but I think this crosses the line from “adorably fanciful” to “Are you on your way to a fancy dress party?”. Also, it looks to be both shapeless and stretchy, which is not generally a flattering combination.

There are certain girls out there that could wear this dress, with the right accessories and attitude, and look good – but that would be because they are the kind of girls that can pull off just about any look. Remove the ‘kiss-o-meter’ camouflage and we’re left with a dress that looks cheap and unflattering.

Well, this is the first time I’ve seen this dress, so I guess I can comment on it without the burden of collective memory 🙂
And the verdict is: Yes, it does look like a £5 beach dress. It’s shapeless and tacky, and I don’t really see what you could wear it with to make it more presentable…

It is the type of dress you buy for someone as a joke all the while hoping to hell that they never actually wear it anywhere… LOL..

Hmmm the design is rather unappealing and so is the concept. This should be sold in a gadget shop. File it under ‘Christmas gifts you dont want to get’

Yeah, it’s not that classy, but I find the most alarming element is that the “kiss-o-meter” comes right out of the crotch area!

Tsk, tsk, tsk. To me, it looks cheap and rather tacky, not to mention unflattering!

I bought this dress and do like it alot. I guess it depends on how you wear it and what with. But I love whimsy.

I just couldn’t wear something that had a thermometer in such a dodgy place!

I vote for “tacky”. The fact that it is so poorly made looking and the bulb of the themometer is at your crotch is just…well…yuck.
