Frankenshoes: Wood Platforms by Sca_Ulven

Yes, they’re REAL shoes.

No, they’re not just “art” – although you could argue that they’re that too.

They’re by Norwegian brand Sca_Ulven and they’re £190 at Not Just a Label.

What do you think of them?

They look like the most uncomfortable shoes ever, I’ve never worn rope around my feet but I’m pretty sure after a while you could rope burns.

I could make those bad boys at home myself for free with two blocks of wood, a drill, and the rope from my neighbor’s hammock.
    Ew.

No well-dressed Neanderthal would have put these on, nor the most desperate, cow-handed stranded pirate. Shoes of prehistoric times were either of leather or of birchbark to enable one to chase the mammoth. (I hope designers will not come up with birchbark…)

They did pretty much boil it down to basics – something on the bottom to protect feet from rocks and dirt, something on the top to keep them attached to said feet. Never mind any kind of comfort or style. I can only imagine the noise they’d make clomping down the sidewalk.

I think you should always be suspicious if your shoes come in “one size fits all”…

Wow. When the designer themselves say “[t]he models for the show were slightly scared to walk in the shoes” as part of their sales pitch, there is a problem with the product.
