Fashion Trends We’d Ban: Crazily patterned leggings

Spl84879_007[1]

This is Sam an Amanda Marchant, a.k.a "The Twins from Big Brother". (That's the UK version of Big Brother, in case you're still scratching your head). Now, given that they're reality TV "stars", our expectations of their sartorial choices are automatically lowered anyway, but that's not important, because we're not here to talk about them, we're here to talk about their leggings: or crazily patterned leggings as a general concept.

Personally, we'd ban 'em. (The leggings, we mean. Not the twins.) Seriously, you can just imagine these two looking back at this picture in a couple of years and thinking, "Oh my God, what were we thinking?" can't you? In our book, that's generally a good indication that it's time to step away from the fashion trend in question, and this is one fashion trend we wish everyone would step away from, because we can't think of ONE PERSON we've seen making this look work. Not one.

Every time we've seen someone attempt it (and luckily those times have been mercifully few, and have mostly involved Katie Price), they've looked a little bit like a giant toddler scribbled all over them. And sure, you can try to pass it off as "edgy" or "wacky" as much as you like, but until we see evidence to the contrary, we're still going to see this as a Crime of Fashion. You?

The black and white ones are nice. The others should be banished.

I’m personally not keen on crazy leggings either but the outfit of the girl on the right is rather nice, I kinda like those leggings.

Personally, I’m not much of a pattern person. I prefer solids with jewellry, scarves, or belts to add flare.
All that to say, these things SCARE me.

The only two women I can imagine wearing these are Agyness Deyn and Chloe Sevigny. Nuff Said.

These are the kind of leggings that that I desperately wanted when I was at primary school.
Sadly (or perhaps happily) I only ever had a pair of those shiny black ones. That are also back in fashion…

the one on the right has a nice top and a gorgeoud jacket.. the leggings kind of ruined it.

Ok, I may be shot for this but I find issue with how the leggings are worn and not the leggings themselves. Like I’d tolerate them worn with a pair of tall black boots and a solid colored skirt and top/ dress. then they’d just be kinda punchy as there’d only be a bit of them showing.

I love them. The girls are young enough to wear them and the rest of their outfits are simple enough for them to look good. They do look awful against that disgusting nickelodeon backdrop, but that’s not the leggings’ fault…

Pattern leggings/tights definitely don’t have to be a crime of fashion. The patterned tights pictured are ugly, but I have some that are really nice, with smaller, more tasteful designs. As the poster above said, patterned leggings just have to be worn right. I wear them with knee-length skirts in either black or a matching color and that way they don’t take over the outfit – just give it a bit of pizzaz.

I personally love them. Just keep everything else in the outfit toned down.
Ugh, I actually really love them.

Certain patterned leggings are nice. It has to be a simple pattern, though. Or, if the pattern is intense, it has to be paired with an uber-minimalist dress.
The leggings on the right are nice.
The ones on the left could be nice, if they were paired with a simple LBD. Straight lines, no ruffles, frills, patterns…etc.
Bottom line: I love patterned tights, but the outfit has to be right. There has to be a ratio.
Simply patterned tights : More dramatic dress
Crazily patterned tights : Minimalist dress
